NFL Power Rankings: Top Running Backs

We’re close to halfway through the 2025 NFL season (how?!?), and we’re starting to see some of the running backs on our list cement their spots. We’ve also seen injuries cause several players to drop out of the top-10, while a few newcomers have played their way onto the list this week.

These rankings are meant to be a snapshot in time, so we’re looking at the first six weeks of performance as our main criteria (along with some judgment calls that factor in injuries and bye weeks).

With that, let’s dig into the Week 7 edition of NFL Running Back Power Rankings!

10. Rico Dowdle, Carolina Panthers (Previous Ranking: N/A)

Rico Dowdle has Kool-Aid manned his way onto the list with two weeks worth of output. Flash in the pan or a sign of things to come? As with most things, the truth is probably somewhere in the middle, but it’s hard to ignore 389 rushing yards in just TWO games. Though Dowdle will have to compete for carries with a now-healthy Chuba Hubbard, he’s earned his way onto the list.

9. Breece Hall, New York Jets (Previous Ranking: N/A)

Breece Hall is being talked about as a disappointment, but I think he’s getting covered by the stench of his 0-6 team. He’s actually been very good this season as he’s 11th in rushing yards and 11th in receiving yards among running backs, so he’s one of the better dual threats in the league. While he’s yet to score a touchdown, Hall is playing in one of the worst offenses in the league so his current production is quite impressive.

8. Kyren Williams, Los Angeles Rams (Previous Ranking: N/A)

Kyren Williams hasn’t done anything spectacular this season, but he’s been so solid that he’s now in the top-10 in rushing yards, receiving yards among running backs, and total touchdowns. While he’s yet to top 100 rushing yards in a game all season, Williams belongs in the top-10 discussion for his consistent production.

7. Javonte Williams, Dallas Cowboys (Previous Ranking: 5)

Javonte Williams dropped a few spots this week after having his worst game of the season against the Panthers. Williams rushed for just 29 yards on the day, and while he added five receptions…those receptions only totaled five yards. Williams is still fifth in the league in rushing yards, so he’s still hanging on in the top 10 for now.

6. Josh Jacobs, Green Bay Packers (Previous Ranking: 9)

Josh Jacobs has yet to top 100 rushing yards this year, but he’s been heating up lately. He’s rushed for 86 and 93 yards over the past two weeks and has added 71 and 57 receiving yards in those two weeks as well. Jacobs is averaging almost 25 touches per game over that span and has added two touchdowns in each game. Another week like this will have him even higher next week.

5. James Cook, Buffalo Bills (Previous Ranking: 4)

James Cook is close to dropping after a couple of so-so weeks, but he still had 17 carries for 87 yards in the Bills’ loss to the Falcons this week. Cook hasn’t been adding much in the passing game as he only has 12 receptions all season, so he’s dropped a bit as he hasn’t scored a touchdown or topped 90 rushing yards since Week 4.

4. De’Von Achane, Miami Dolphins  (Previous Ranking: 8)

De’Von Achane went off for 128 rushing yards, 22 receiving yards, and two touchdowns in the Dolphins’ Week 6 loss to the Chargers. He’s now 13th in the league in rushing yards and third among running backs in receiving yards. The third-year back also has six total touchdowns on the season – just two from Jonathan Taylor’s league-leading eight.

3. Christian McCaffrey, San Francisco 49ers (Previous Ranking: 2)

Christian McCaffrey dropped a spot this week, but that was more about who passed him than it was about him underperforming. McCaffrey continues to be the best dual-threat running back in the league and finished week 6 with 111 total yards (54 rushing and 57 receiving). The veteran backs 46 receptions are second in the league among all players, and he has a chance to move into first this week with Puka Nacua unlikely to play.

2. Bijan Robinson, Atlanta Falcons (Previous Ranking: 4)

Bijan Robinson had himself an absolute monster of a game against the Bills on Monday Night Football (170 rushing yards and 68 receiving yards with two touchdowns) and came close to playing his way to the top of this list. Robinson is now second in the league in rushing yards per game and is averaging the most yards per rush (5.8) of any running back with more than 25 carries on the season.

1. Jonathan Taylor, Indianapolis Colts (Previous Ranking: 1)

Jonathan Taylor continues to be a beast and rushed for 123 rushing yards and a touchdown to go with four receptions for 14 yards against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 6. Taylor is still the league-leader in rushing yards (603) and touchdowns (7) through six weeks, and has fully earned the top spot on our list.
