There were a number of great rookie quarterbacks selected in the 2023 draft, but one of them is standing out and rewriting history. We are talking about the Houston Texans rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud.
Stroud was the No. 2 overall pick in the draft, coming out of the Ohio State Buckeyes elite college program. He has thrown the ball for 1,212 yards, six TDs and no interceptions so far this season. His performance has surpassed Justin Herbert, Patrick Mahomes and Andrew Luck for the second-most yards through four starts to begin a career. The only quarterback in history to start faster than Stroud is Cam Newton, who was at 1,386 yards after his first four games.
C.J. has some other stats that may shock you. He has 94 completions, which is more than Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts. He has a higher passer rating than Trevor Lawrence and Joe Burrow at 100.6. He has more passing touchdowns than Matthew Stafford and Dak Prescott at six. And to top it off, Stroud leads the league in pass attempts without an interception at 151. On the fantasy side, Stroud has at least 20 points in each of his last three games, throwing for two touchdowns and at least 280 yards in each. With other top options disappointing, he is the QB10 in total points so far this season.
This guy seems to be the real deal for Houston. He is on pace to smash the rookie passing yards record by over 700 yards if he keeps this going. The Texans are coming into form and have some great weapons in Nico Collins, Tank Dell, and Robert Woods. For everyone who doubted they would be anything this season, think again. Coach DeMeco Ryans and OC Bobby Slowik are doing great things with this team and their rookie QB, and Stroud is certainly worth adding in fantasy if you need help at the QB position.
