Dynasty Football Journal Week 8

We’ve reached the second half of the season, and now we should have a good idea of how the team will perform, and most importantly, how each of our teams will withstand injuries and downturns in production. Week 8 has 6 teams on bye, and how I perform this week will really go a long way in determining our performance for the second half of the season.  Below, we’ll outline our 3 weekly teams, and the good news is we have my worst team, one of my better teams, and one of my middle teams that we’ve been following, so it makes for a good variety of how we play each week.  I feel like this is the line in the sand where I change my redraft strategy a bit from dynasty on the team that is 1-6 right now.  If this were a dynasty team with this record, I would be focused on being a better team in 2026; however, with this team, either I make a playoff push or I lose the money I invested.

Danger Family

This team is 13-1 heading toward the second half, it’s important to note that it pays 1x for the best record, so I’m very much focused on getting that money since I’m currently in the drivers seat.  To move toward that goal (which gives a week off in week 15), I’m not only trying to beat my opponent and put up points in the top half, but also stack wins.  QB Bryce Young got hurt, so I picked up Dart from waivers this week.  JSN goes on bye, and I had 1 extra WR on the squad; however, Pearsall is out, so I picked up Reynolds, who is the Jets’ #1 and gives me a floor at WR3 for the week.  I’ve found starting 4 RBs to be a successful way to pile the points.  I’ve also found Brian Robinson on waivers, and since CMC is on a team with a few RBs, it seemed prudent to begin eliminating other teams from the playoff mix based on my roster.  A lot can happen for sure during the 2nd half here; however, I feel confident that with only a 1-game lead for the top record, my score is 200 points higher, and 3rd place is 3 games behind, so getting the bye is in scope.  Currently, I’m 7 games in front of the #7 seed, so a playoff berth is in scope in the coming weeks.

Wow, what a difference from team to team.  This team begins week 8 with a 1-6 record and is in desperation mode for a playoff berth.  I spent a lot of time looking at ways to improve.  I feel like to guarantee a playoff berth, I really need to go 6-1 the rest of the way, scoring some points, so week 8 feels pivotal.  You’ll remember this team had nothing but QBs on the bench at the beginning of the year; however, as things have taken turns, I now have a bench of 4 QBs (2 on bye) and first-round pick Joe Burrow on IR.  This league has some challenges as out players need to stay on active roster so with byes to McBride, & Jamo and Pearsall hurt I feel like I have a lot of variance on the team but beyond giving someone a starting QB for a zero spot improving from Bellinger to maybe Otton it seems more prudent to keep the league more mediocre so if I can string together wins then a 7-7 record can get me to the playoffs.  I currently sit 120 points behind the 6 seed, 3 games out of the playoffs.  I admit the team is on life support, and really, I’m impressed by how disciplined all the owners are at keeping my team down.

Clown Head Redraft I

This team begins the week 5-2, ranked #4.  I’d like to be better, but ultimately I’m pleased with how this team is taking form.  This is a playoff team; however, it’s still just in the middle of the playoff hunt and needs to get more strength to win in the end.  I only have depth at TE here so not much QB depth to get any reinforcements so when building this team I really didn’t do a good job of acquiring assets that other would want so anytime I need something I have to pay a premium because its someone giving me something I need rather than making the trade because the other person needs the trade more than I do.  I’ll work the waiver wire to keep adding assets in areas of weakness while also getting extra WRs that are startable, since I need to start 4, and Bond is currently my WR4.
