Week 7 begins on Thursday, marking the end of several bye weeks. Six weeks of record really allows me to understand what each team looks like. I have fourteen redraft teams; however, three of them are bestball teams that were drafted only. Two of these three end week 6 in the top spot; however, the other is unlikely to earn any money. Ten out of the remaining eleven teams are currently in the playoffs, with the lone team one of those outlined below. I drafted each differently, taking the remaining players with a value-based approach; however, my value differs slightly from the masses in most cases. Below, we’ll discuss each of the three teams we’ve been following.
Danger Family
This team scored the league’s most points in week 6, thanks to a robust RB draft strategy. Round 1 was Bijan, Round 2 was Taylor, with 1st WR coming round 3 with JSN. A reminder of this strategy came in Round 14, when I took my first non-RB or WR. I have a different starter at QB, TE, K, & Def than I started with at the draft, and more importantly, I don’t have these positions on my bench either. I currently have 4 RB and 2 WR on the bench. I think that with this format, starting 4 RB and 3 WR has proved to be the most ideal approach, and it’s what I’ve been doing each week. Looking at week 7 and not having byes or injuries might put a log jam, causing me to have to make start-sit decisions of players I really should have in a starting lineup. This week at 11-1, I play the team in the #7 spot, fighting to get to the playoffs. My goal is to stack the wins this week and start pulling ahead.
TFFL2
This team is now 1-5, and the season is beginning to get away from me. I still like the roster, however, and don’t feel like there have been many trades that have made sense. This league seems to be stacked full of mediocre play, with two playoff spots taken by teams at 3-3, just two games ahead. I will continue to pick up players from waivers this week to keep getting top-end players; however, right now, I’m simply looking for Jamo & Henderson to play like starters on a fantasy roster. This week is crucial for reaching 2-5 and getting back in the hunt. I’ll look for anything that can help get a win.
Clown Head Redraft I
This team is 5-1, tied for the top spot; however, it is sitting at the #3 seed and does not have the bye. This tells me I need to improve my weekly score to win the tiebreaker, and with Lamb’s return very soon, those should be the points I need to do just that. Currently sitting 125 points behind the 1st place team, this point addition from Hollywood Brown up to Lamb will really help. This week, facing another 5-1 team, we’ll have a chance to make a significant move up the leaderboard. This team used an anchor RB drafting a WR 1st and 3rd rounds while waiting for 10 QBs to get drafted, then selected two. I drafted 8 TEs in this deep bench league to ensure I didn’t run thin at the start 2 position with 3pt ppr. I waited until rounds 7 & 8 to get the first two. This is a classic end-of-draft strategy I deploy where I double-tap a position to create a run.
Looking at 14 redraft teams, there are two listed above that, after 6 weeks, will struggle to win money, but in both cases, I’m not going to begin a punt; I’m playing hard, and I’m not tanking. I think these traits hold true in dynasty, as I’m never doing a fire sale or a complete rebuild; I’m consistently building, getting better year over year, record over record.
