The 2024 season started off with so much promise for Saints fans as they started the season 2-0 by scoring over 40 points in both of those contests. After that, they only scored above 20 points in four other games after that while also being shut out by the Packers. From injuries to inconsistent play, the Saints watched their season go up in flames like a bad voodoo spell. Mojo aside, the Saints are looking to overhaul the team while hoping they can land a head coach that can dispel this mess.
QB:
Derek Carr
When the Saints acquired Derek Carr, they thought they had the quarterback position covered. Instead what happened was one solid season followed up by missing seven games last year. Carr had popped up in trade rumors with the Giants but with a no-trade clause in his contract, he has the final say. However, in 10 games, Carr recorded 2,145 passing yards with 16 total touchdowns which he can easily duplicate this year if the team stays healthy.
RB:
Alvin Kamara
The last man standing for the Saints this year was Alvin Kamara. Before going down to injury or just plain checking out, Kamara started the season out hot before the injuries finally got to him. We saw Kamara’s frustrations later in the season as he started pulling himself out of games. Regardless, Kamara had a great season with 1,493 total yards and eight total touchdowns to go with it. Expect the same results this year while other people may avoid the Saints in many fantasy football drafts due to the train wreck they had this past season.
WR:
Chris Olave
What looked like a promising career for Chris Olave had started out with many road bumps along the way. Since 2020, Olave has had five concussions with two last season that landed him on the IR for the season. Going forward, I wouldn’t draft Olave before the fourth round in any draft until he proved he can stay on the field.
Rashid Shaheed
Rashid Shaheed started the year opposite Chris Olave but before he knew it, he was the only credible wide receiver left for the Saints. Before landing on the IR himself, Shaheed caught 20 passes for 349 yards and three touchdowns in six games.
Defense:
Demario Davis
Demario Davis may be a vet but like fine wine, his statistics have flourished. After recording the most tackles he has ever had in a season by one, Davis also slayed it in many IDP leagues during the fantasy football playoffs. Davis will remain a defensive stud like usual and will continue the leadership he provides for the Saints’ defense.
Coaching:
Darren Rizzi / Dennis Allen
Darren Rizzi took over as an interim head coach after Dennis Allen was canned. Rizzi didn’t do anything special during his time as the head coach to prove to the Saints he was their guy going forward. After two interviews, it looks like Kellen Moore is in the lead to be the Saints head coach once the Eagles season is done. This will be an amazing hire for the Saints who hope Moore can help Kamara and the rest of the offense like he did with Saquon Barkley and the Eagles’ this year.
