The Top Storylines For WWE Backlash

Hello everyone. I hope everyone has had a great spring so far, so let’s get back into some WWE news. Right now, we have Backlash for this Saturday with Money in the Bank following that up on June 7th. I’ll have some themed articles for MITB, but for now, we only have five matches announced for this weekend. So I’m only going to focus on a few matches because the rest should be announced on Friday Night SmackDown. Have a great day, everyone, and may the slams be with you.

Gunther vs. Pat McAfee

This match came out of nowhere, but now that we have it, let’s talk about it. Gunther has been pissed since losing the title and he decided to target Pat McAfee for his anger. Pat didn’t put up with that at all since he called out Gunther the following week after he was put in a submission by the former champ. That led to their promo this week that ended with Gunther shoving the microphone into McAfee’s chest, in the end. The quick build we have had for this match has been dead on, but unfortunately, it’s going to end with Gunther winning, unless Michael Cole helps, since Gunther targeted him first before Pat tried to save him.

Dominick Mysterio © vs Penta

This match has gained momentum as Penta quickly stepped onto the scene to become a fan favorite, immediately. On top of that, his success and high-risk moves have catapulted him to the top so fast that the WWE has to make this match. What is crazy, though, is that Dom has become a fan favorite as well since winning the title and goes into this match still aligned with the Judgement Day. That means Dom should likely retain, since I don’t think the WWE is going to give Penta a shot right now. It sounds fun, and I would love to see it, but Din wins this Saturday.

Jacob Fatu ©, L.A. Knight, Drew McIntyre, vs. Damien Priest

There are so many ways to go with this Fatal-Four Way match at Backlash this weekend. Jacob Fatu just won the title, and in my opinion, should be allowed to have a run due to his popularity right now and his dominance in the ring. L.A. Knight is a former champ, and even though some people think he needs a title to be relevant, he doesn’t. Drew McIntyre is a powerhouse and a former WWE World champion. McIntyre clearly can win this, but I feel his beef in this matchup is with Damien Priest. Speaking of Damien Priest, his feud with Drew had been gold. I wish they had made this a singles match since the card looks thin right now. Regardless if there is a new champion crowned on Saturday, L.A. Knight gets my vote. However, I feel Fatu retains which should open up the rest of them for a chance at the Money in the Bank suitcase.

John Cena © vs. Randy Orton

This match should be amazing between John Cena and Randy Orton. Both of them are legends, and Randy has been wrestling at a high level since he came back from his injury, some time ago. Cena has been hotter than the sun with his new gimmick,k and I don’t see him doing the title until Summerslam when Cody comes back. However, with the Money in the Bank only a month away, anyone could cash in on Cena beforehand. I doubt that happens since this is his farewell tour, which leads back to Cody. That means Cena wins this Saturday after another great story with Orton, who I want to win, but won’t.
