Fantasy Baseball Two-Start Pitchers: Week 20
The pickings are extraordinarily thin this week for viable two start pitchers who have low ownership rates. There are exactly two, Javier Assad and Alex Faedo. And ironically they are facing each other on Monday.
RHP Javier Assad, Chicago Cubs
The Cubs are still in the hunt for a playoff spot, so they are showing tremendous faith in Assad down the stretch. This swingman has made 22 appearances with only four starts, two in the last week. In them, he’s 1-0 with a 2.08 ERA and 0.85 WHIP. They definitely like what they see in the 26 year old righty. If you’re in a keeper league, Assad could be a play for 2024 too.
RHP Alex Faedo, Detroit Tigers
Faedo has an extremely unusual pitching line. He’s made nine starts and thrown 45.1 innings. He’s only given up 6.78 hits per nine innings and sports a very solid 0.99 WHIP. And he’s struck out nearly a batter per inning. He had a respectable 4.15 ERA before giving up six and seven earned runs in back to back starts, which has skyrocketed that number to 5.16. In two of his last three starts, he’s thrown one hit gems; over six innings on July 23rd against the Padres, and in his last start against Minnesota on August 15th.
