The NFL has explored playing games internationally, and most people would consider them to be successful. There are also cities in the United States that would love to have an NFL team, and it would make sense whether it be relocation or expansion. Here are the five best and most likely destinations if/when the NFL decides to move or expand teams.
Toronto
Toronto has all the sports teams in Canada. Although they are known as a hockey town, Toronto has supported the MLB’s Toronto Blue Jays since the 70s and the NBA’s Toronto Raptors since the mid-90s. Their professional Canadian Football League team is one of the most successful in league history as well. The City could easily support an NFL team.
Mexico City
It is one of the largest cities in North America and is an easy flight from anywhere in the United States or Canada. They have had NFL games played there already and recently had MLB games played there, too. It is a big enough city to support two teams even, similar to that of New York or Los Angeles.
St. Louis
They had the Rams for many years, and the franchise even won a Super Bowl in St. Louis. The City was devastated to lose them back to Los Angeles, and they would relish the opportunity to have another NFL franchise, whether it be via relocation or expansion.
London
The NFL has experimented with games in London for many years now, and although the travel is somewhat of an issue, the game is growing across the pond, and the league could account for the travel when making the schedule. Long road trips and stretches of home games for the London team would help, and having teams get a bye the week before or after going to London would also help.
Salt Lake City
They just got an NHL team this year, and it has been a success early on. They have the Utah Jazz in the NBA and can certainly support an NFL team, too. Oh, and they have hosted the Olympics, so yeah, they can handle an NFL franchise.
