Bengals QB Joe Burrow was carted off the practice field on Thursday in what has since been declared a strained calf. Dr. Jess Flynn, one of the top injury experts in the field, has called lower extremity (LEX) muscle strains one of the biggest issues the NFL is facing in the preseason. I would be very surprised to see Burrow take the field for at least two weeks, possibly more. Reinjury to this area is EXTREMELY common and the Bengals need to make sure that Burrow is healthy and ready for Week 1. I foresee a buying opportunity in fantasy drafts as I think he will see a huge dip in value as people seldom want to invest in someone not fully healthy. I will buy the dip and hold Burrow and likely pair him with a solid backup.
Dolphins CB Jalen Ramsey collided with Tyreek Hill in practice on Thursday and damaged his meniscus which is going to require surgery. Expect Ramsey to start the season on the PUP list. If the surgery goes well, I can see Ramsey returning by Week 6. If there are complications, there is an outside possibility he might miss the regular season. If Ramsey is out, look for the Dolphins defense to take a huge hit which would benefit their offense, making Hill, Waddle and Tua even more valuable.
Jets WR Garrett Wilson hurt his ankle in Thursday’s practice. HC Robert Saleh downplayed the injury saying that Wilson is expected to be fine. Wilson was creeping up draft boards prior to this news, but now I can see him falling slightly down to the latter part of Round 2. Taking Tyreek Hill at 1.4 or 1.5 and getting Wilson in Round 2 might be a huge coup if people are scared off due to his injury. I would gladly take Wilson right now around picks 13-16 and feel confident that he plays Week 1.
