What started out as a season with Super Bowl aspirations ended with a fired head coach (Robert Saleh) and question marks everywhere. The Jets have the pieces to compete in the AFC East, but will the dysfunction in the ownership let that happen?
QB:
41-year-old Aaron Rodgers finished the season with 3897 passing yards and 28 TDs, but 11 of those TD passes occurred after Week 13. It’s possible the Jets bring Rodgers back, but they are going to need to groom someone to take over when he retires. This is a huge decision for the new GM/Head coach to make, as the team can’t afford to get this wrong.
RB:
Breece Hall had 1359 yards from scrimmage but he had fewer rushing attempts and receptions than he did in 2023. The good news is that he stayed healthy for most of the season and seemed to pair well with rookies Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis. It’s obvious Hall has more left in the tank and needs more touches for the Jets to thrive offensively.
WR:
Davante Adams had his 5th straight 1000-yard season as he was force-fed targets from Rodgers after his midseason arrival. Will Adams choose to stay in New York if Rodgers leaves?
Garrett Wilson has his best professional season, although you couldn’t tell from his weekly antics on the sidelines. Wilson only had 100+ receiving yards in four games and will never be the WR1 he wants to be with Adams around. Wilson could hold out or ask for a trade in the offseason.
Malachi Corley was barely used as a rookie, and Allen Lazard stopped seeing meaningful targets as soon as Adams arrived.
Defense:
Will McDonald had a breakthrough season with 10.5 sacks.
Jamien Sherwood had the most solo tackles in the league, filling in for an injured C.J. Mosely.
Sauce Gardner was disappointing as his coverage skills faltered, and was on the IR with a hamstring injury for much of the second half of the season.
Coaching:
Robert Saleh was fired midseason, and Jeff Ulbrich did not fare any better. Former Jet and Detroit DC Aaron Glenn has been hired as the new Head Coach. He knows how to deal with the New York media and is one of the best Jets of all time, so that should help him with the public if he gets the job.
