📈 Prospect Spotlight & Interview: Camden Brown (@CamdenBrown7)
Interviewer: Justin Jaksa (@profootballintel)
From the SEC to Sun Belt History. After three years at Auburn, Brown transferred to Georgia Southern and exploded onto the scene.
The 6’2”, 200 lb. wideout just finished a historic campaign and is officially on the NFL radar. Let’s dive into the journey. 🧵👇
🏆 Record-Breaking Production
Brown didn’t just play well; he set the standard in Statesboro.
▪️1,079 Receiving Yards: The FIRST player in Georgia Southern history to hit the 1k mark.
▪️14 Touchdowns: Led the entire FBS in receiving scores this season.
▪️The Clutch Factor: Clinched his 1,000-yard mark in the bowl-eligibility win vs. Marshall.
On setting the 1,000-yard milestone: Brown described the achievement as “surreal,” but emphasized that team success came first. “While the numbers are exciting, my focus was always on the mission to win games; the numbers don’t mean anything if you’re not winning.”
On clinching the record against Marshall: He broke the record during a critical bowl-eligibility win. When asked if he was tracking his stats during the game, Brown admitted, “I definitely knew I was close and hitting that mark during a win to clinch postseason eligibility made it perfect.”
✈️ The “Catch Ball” Mentality
Brown is viewed by scouts as a “50/50 ball specialist” who excels in verticality and sideline play. His approach to the game is defined by physical dominance.
What makes him lethal in the Red Zone? Brown attributes his FBS-leading 14 touchdowns to sheer aggression. “When I see the ball, I’m aggressive with it,” he said. “If I see a defender, I’m going to try to run through them to make the contact and make the play.”
🧠 Pro-Ready IQ
Working under Jon & Jay Gruden at the Hula Bowl, Camden described the experience as a “blessing” and focused on being a “sponge.”
“Jon Gruden’s energy and knowledge as a Super Bowl-winning coach really made an impact.”
While his time in the SEC helped “slow the game down” and taught him to recognize defensive coverages, he needed a specific environment to truly thrive.
Brown noted that while he enjoyed Coach Clay Helton’s scheme at Georgia Southern was pivotal for his development. He explained that Helton’s system focuses on getting the best players the opportunity” rather than relying solely on RPOs (Run-Pass Options). This allowed him to showcase his full skillset.
When asked about the “spark” that allowed him to reach his potential, Brown credited the coaching staff’s faith in him. He stated, “Honestly, all I needed was an opportunity.”
🏈 Breaking down his Hula Bowl Touchdown:
His performance at the Hula Bowl proved he can compete with the best. His TD catch in Deland was a masterclass.
Brown demonstrated his football IQ and athleticism and described the play: “I saw that the guy was off the hash and trying to match me in a cover two look. I scammed in, saw the opportunity to see the ball… I just had to go get it.”
🏎️ What’s Next?
The grind doesn’t stop. Camden is currently training in Hattiesburg, MS, locked in for the NFL Scouting Combine and Pro Days.
Expect him to put up massive numbers in testing. A high-ceiling, high-character target that NFL WR rooms are going to love. 🦅➡️
