There were some surprising cuts on Tuesday as teams got down to their final rosters. Some of the bigger fantasy names included:
- Patriots QB Bailey Zappe
- Vikings RB DeWayne McBride
- Cowboys RB Malik Davis
- Jets RB Zonovan Knight
Look for these players to likely be added back to their respective teams’ practice squads, assuming they make it through waivers.
On a separate note, the Colts ended up not trading RB Jonathan Taylor but instead placing him on the PUP list, forcing him to miss the first four games of the season. This appeared shocking to onlookers, but I have to give the Colts credit for sticking to their guns and not taking less than Taylor is worth. The Colts likely figure that Taylor will be worth more to them come the trade deadline than he is fetching right now. They can always take a lesser deal then, so no need to settle now. There is still the smallest of chances that the Colts can get Taylor to sign a contract and stay with the team, so it is worth holding on to him for that reason too.
Evan Hull, Deon Jackson, and Zack Moss will be the team’s RB corps for now. It is likely that they add another name (Kareem Hunt?) prior to the beginning of the season.
