The Jets offense with Aaron Rodgers last year ranked 31st in rush yards per game, 27th in time of possession, 25th in pass yards per play, tied for 24th in points per game, 2nd on 1st downs and 21st in the red zone.

The Jets swapped out Aaron Rodgers for Justin Fields in free agency with Rodgers going to Fields’ last team in Pittsburgh.  New York has added first-round draft picks at left and right tackle in the last 2 drafts.  They used their 2nd round pick this year on tight end Mason Taylor.

QB:  Justin Fields

Fields started 3-0 with the Steelers last year and went 4-2 in his 6 starts.  In those games he rushed for 231 yards and 5 TDs, while throwing 5 TDs and 1 INT on 66% completion rate with an average of 184 passing yards per game.  Fields should be tasked with managing games like he did with the Steelers in 2024.

RB:  Breece Hall

Hall has seen his yards per carry drop each year since his rookie year in which he averaged 5.8 in the first 7 games with 4 rushing TDs before tearing his ACL.  The last 2 seasons he’s managed to play in 33 of 34 games but has seen his ypc drop to 4.5 and then 4.2.

He’s averaged 67 receptions over the last 2 seasons with 3 receiving TDs in each.  He’s also put up 4-5 rushing TD in all 3 years of his career.

RB:  Braelon Allen

Allen was a 4th round pick for the Jets last year, whose career started well with him rushing 27 times over the first 4 games for 130 yards (4.8 ypc) and a TD with an additional TD on 7 receptions for 57 yards.

Over the last 13 games he only managed 204 rushing yards on 65 carries (3.1 ypc) with 1 TD and 12 receptions for 91 yards.

RB:  Isaiah Davis

The Allen (2024 – 4th Round RB pick) and Davis (2024 – 5th Round RB pick) could play out similar to the Green Bay Packers 2017 draft when they selected RB, Jamaal Williams in the 4th round and RB, Aaron Jones in the 5th round.  Jones was the small school back, drafted a round later, who had the better NFL career.

Before Hall missed a game in December last year, Davis had only received 5 rushes for 22 yards with 1 catch for 10 yards.  Over the last 5 games, starting with the one Hall missed, Davis and Allen  each received 25 carries with Allen going for 94 (3.8) yards and 0 TDs and Davis going for 152 (6.1) with a TD.  The game prior to Hall missing, Breece was only targeted 1 time.  In that game and the next, Davis totaled 6 receptions for 53 yards and a receiving TD.

WR:  Garrett Wilson

It’s come full circle for Wilson.  His quarterbacks for the majority of the last 5 seasons, dating back to Ohio State, were Justin Fields, C.J. Stroud, Zach Wilson, Aaron Rodgers and now, Fields again.

Wilson hasn’t missed a game as a pro, playing in 51 of 51, including 40 straight starts.  Despite the change in QBs, he’s remained between 1,042-1,104 receiving yards each year.  His receptions have gone up yearly, while his yards per reception have dropped from 13.3 as a rookie to 10.9 in 2024.

WR:  Josh Reynolds

The Jets will be Reynolds 5th team in 5 years.  He missed half of last season due to a broken finger.  While on injured reserve, he was shot multiple times.  Prior to the injuries, Reynolds had 2 solid years while with the Lions in 2022 and 2023.  He averaged 39 / 544 / 4 on a 63% catch rate while averaging 13.9 yards per reception.

WR:  Allen Lazard

Lazard has benefited from spending his entire 7-year career with Aaron Rodgers until this point.  After leaving Green Bay and joining Rodgers with the Jets in 2023, Lazard had his worst season since his rookie season in 2018.

Rodgers was injured early on in the first game of the 2023 season.  Lazard now enters his first season without Rodgers on the roster and having missed 2+ games in each season since playing in 16 games back in 2019.

WR:  Tyler Johnson / Malachi Corley / Arian Smith

There’s wiggle room for someone to stop up behind Garrett Wilson.  Whether it’s due to Reynolds and Lazard’s play not being up to par or injury, this trio will get a chance to compete to contribute.

Johnson is the veteran of the group that had a career resurgence last year with the Rams after previously showing decent with Tampa Bay back in 2021.  Corley is the raw third rounder from the 2024 draft that has Deebo-like qualities.  Smith is the 4.3 speedster that has massive flaws in his game but can be utilized to stretch the field horizontally and vertically.

TE:  Mason Taylor

Taylor is the son of Hall of Famer, Jason Taylor who played with the Jets after spending most of his career with the Miami Dolphins.  Taylor can contribute immediately as a rookie due to lack of depth at the position and his talent underneath as a massive target.

Taylor, along with Hall out of the backfield, will give Fields safety blankets to get the ball  in space and let them create to move the chains, if he’s not able to get it to Wilson as his first read.  Taylor is best utilized close to the line or schemed into space that allows a runway.  He struggles against tight coverage, contested catches and after the catch versus closing tacklers.

BREAKOUT PLAYER:  Mason Taylor

Taylor isn’t going to be Brock Bowers or anything close.  He will however see a ton of volume in the Jets’ 2025 offense.  The first option in this passing attack will be Wilson, 2nd will be Hall and 3rd will be Taylor.  He’ll see 80 targets as a rookie, most of them close to the line.  Taylor finishes with 60+ receptions for 500 yards and 3 TDs.

BUST:  Braelon Allen

Among the top 3 backs in the Jets backfield, Allen showed the least as a runner and a receiving option.  Despite being fresh from a limited workload throughout the season, his production was non-existent after the first quarter of the season last year.  He’ll fall to 3rd on the depth chart in 2025.  Allen finishes this season with 60 carries for 250 yards and 2 TDs.

SLEEPER:  Isaiah Davis

Davis’ success when called upon could be shrugged off as being a young back with fresh legs after resting most of the season while the defensive players have played over 70% of the season at that point.  I view it as more than that.  Davis looked the part and outperformed Allen repeatedly head-to-head and it’s not as if Allen had a brutal workload to that point.

Davis finishes 2025 with 120 carries for 600 yards and 30 receptions for 250 yards with 5 total TDs.

BOLD PREDICTION:  Justin Fields

Quarterbacks play the toughest position and get written off so early.  Even when they show signs of growth, it’s never enough.  Geno Smith and Sam Darnold have proven that some players need more time and reps to develop.

Fields went 4-2 as a starter last year after starting his career 10-28.  He grew from a QB that completed 60% of his passes over the first 3 seasons to a 65% passer last year.  After throwing 7 TDs to 10 INTs as a rookie he’s completed 38 TDs / 21 INTs over the last 3 years including 5 TDs / 1 INT last year.

All of that is on top of him previously rushing for 1,100 yards in 1 season and totaling 17 rushing TDs the last 3 years while only having 34 starts.  In 2025, Fields puts it all together for 3,000 passing yards, 18 passing TDs and 9 INTs with 600 rushing yards and 7 rushing TDs.
