One of the big names that no one seems to be talking about being traded this season is Arizona Cardinals WR Marquise “Hollywood” Brown. So far, I have been staying away from him in drafts, but after further analysis, I might need to re-evaluate my thinking.
Firstly, Brown is in the last year of his contract with the Cardinals that pays him $13.4 million this season. Brown has all the incentive in the world to play well so he can get the $20+ million contract next off-season. I can’t imagine the Cardinals paying him that kind of money at 27 years old when the team is going through an obvious rebuild.
Additionally, the Cardinals just spent third-round draft capital on rookie WR Michael Wilson from Stanford who the team really likes. With Brown and Rondale Moore cemented in their roles, Wilson is going to need someone to get injured to see the field. If Brown gets traded, Wilson can get the reps he needs to advance his game more rapidly.
I doubt that Brown gets traded prior to the start of the season but for any team looking to make a run at the Super Bowl, he could be the piece that gets them there. Brown just fell to the seventh round of a high-stakes draft I recently did. If his stock continues to plummet, I would definitely consider buying the dip and holding until he likely gets moved.
