I realize that the NFL now has a 17-game schedule, so it’s not quite 25% of the year, but after this week’s games are played, effectively, a quarter of the season is behind us. There are still five undefeated teams and three teams without a win.
All five of the undefeated teams finally clawed their way into the top 10. For Seattle and Pittsburgh, it’s been a slog to move up the rankings. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. Seattle and Pittsburgh have fooled us for three weeks now. Maybe they are legit, and their ascension on this list validates that.
Nobody expected much from the Titans this season, and their 0-3 start to the year isn’t much of a surprise… their last place spot on this list bares that out. The other two winless teams have finally fallen outside of the top 20. Again, fool me once, twice, and now three times, and I have to take notice. After a while, if you keep beating your head against a wall, it’s bound to hurt at some point…the Bengals and Jaguars have both been painful to watch this season.
And lastly, I often quote Ric Flair, “To be the man, you have to beat the man.” I’ve seen many lists that have the Bills overtaking the Chiefs and taking over the top spot. I can’t do that. I agree the Bills have been very impressive so far this season, but until KC stumbles, they will be no.1 on this list. They are the two-time defending champs and are undefeated…nuff said.
