Last week’s number one bold prediction was “Indiana announces itself as a national power by beating Oregon by 10.” Now, I know I’m far from perfect in this column, but I feel like I get to victory lap on that one when I called the exact margin of victory. In fact, last week was a particularly good week in this column as we also called Pitt’s upset over Florida State and UCLA’s upset over Michigan State. Let’s see if we can keep the magic rolling this week:
1. South Carolina upsets Oklahoma as the Sooners begin a tailslide

What I saw last week in Oklahoma’s loss to Texas was some major red flags as we head towards the rest of the season for the Sooners. The rest of the offense outside of John Mateer is not playing well, which puts a lot on the shoulders of a quarterback who broke his throwing hand three weeks ago (and I have no idea how it’s medically possible he’s playing right now). I just don’t see Oklahoma’s offense putting up a whole lot of points in this one.
2. Tennessee travels into Bryant-Denny Stadium and puts up 40 points on Alabama

The Volunteers have scored 34 points against every SEC opponent they have played so far this season, so maybe this isn’t so bold. Joey Aguilar is turning into the next great Josh Heupel QB, and Chris Brazzell is a gamebreaker out wide. But I continue to be flummoxed by Alabama. I know that they are a very good offensive team, with Ty Simpson leading the way, but their defense has shown some cracks. I think the Vols are able to hang up a lot of points here, and it will be up to Alabama to see if they can match.
3. Baylor and TCU account for more than 85 points in the highest-scoring game of the weekend

This one has all the feelings of a mid-2010s Big 12 shootout game. Back when totals were set in the 70s, and Patrick Mahomes, Trevone Boykin, Baker Mayfield, and Mason Rudolph were rewriting record books. Neither Baylor nor TCU ranks in the top 75 nationally in passing yards allowed per game. This is a perfect recipe for Josh Hoover and Sawyer Robertson to light up the scoreboard and give us an entertaining game.
4. Minnesota pulls off the upset Friday night against a distracted Nebraska team

All of the headlines this week are connecting Matt Rhule to the newly opened Penn State coaching job. When a coach is being pursued by another school, particularly a marquee job, it generally doesn’t go well for the school that the coach is currently working for. I think this is a prime trap spot against a Minnesota team that should be able to run on Nebraska with a now-healthy Darius Taylor.
5. Trinidad Chambliss accounts for 300 total yards and 3 TDs as Ole Miss upsets Georgia

I just have this feeling that the vibes are off with Georgia right now. The offense really struggled against Auburn, and the defense does not have the same level of pass rush that we are used to seeing out of a Kirby Smart defense. Lane Kiffin has great familiarity with Smart’s scheme (because both used to work for Nick Saban), and I have confidence in him to dial up some plays that take advantage of Chambliss’s skillset and pull out the W.
