When it comes to the top defenses in the NFL, ranking them is like opinions; everyone has their own. However, aside from going to NFL.com many sites will just regurgitate the same rankings, which, for me, makes everything bland. So for my rankings, I’m going to add a fantasy football aspect to it, which will not only give this article more validity but will also help you and your seasonal teams. That means the teams below not only scored big the previous week, but also have another juicy match-up this week to exploit. I feel this gives my article and our site an edge on the competition since they’re all drinking the same Kool-Aid. So let’s get to the rankings so we can show the industry that no ranking is safe once I’m on it. Have a great day, everyone, and may the tackles be with you.
1. Denver Broncos
The Broncos will be playing the Bengals this week in Cincinnati. With the Bengals reeling, you can bet that the Broncos are ready to buck them to the curb. This should be an easy win for the Broncos, who should put the Bengals out of their misery after the Vikings scorched them this past weekend.
2. Pittsburgh Steelers:
The Steelers defense has been catching a lot of flak for having a stacked defense but not stopping anyone with it. That changed this week when they recorded five sacks along with four fumble recoveries against the Patriots. With the Vikings next on their schedule, you can count on another defensive game between these two teams.
3. Minnesota Vikings:
The Vikings were acting like a normal defense until they played the Bengals, which led to four sacks, two interceptions, three fumble recoveries, and two touchdowns. This week, they’ll be playing the Steelers, who are nowhere near as bad as the Bengals are, so they should come back down to earth. However, with a defensive line like theirs mixed in with a good secondary, this defense is here to stay.
4. Los Angeles Chargers:
The Chargers have a good defense, and it shows with them keeping their points against average low. In three games so far, the Chargers have only given up 50 points and will be playing the Giants, who just made the move to a rookie quarterback in Jaxson Dart. They should be able to confuse him, leading to them capitalizing on his mistakes. With a defense like the Chargers, it makes you think what Brian Daboll is thinking besides trying to keep his job.
5. Green Bay Packers:
The Packers looked like the team to beat in the NFC after acquiring Micah Parsons via a trade with the Dallas Cowboys. That has led to 10 sacks and two interceptions while not allowing any of their previous opponents to score over 20 points. This week, they’ll be in Dallas for Parsons’ return while they look to dismantle the Cowboys in week 4.
6. Seattle Seahawks (TNF):
The Seahawks are another sneaky defense that not only has held all of their opponents under 18 points, but has looked great in the process. With a return touchdown in their last game, the Seahawks average points per game is sitting at 22.3 points, which is great for a defense that most people wouldn’t think would be this good.
7. Houston Texans:
The Texans came into this year as one of my favorite defenses. They haven’t been the best, but this week they get the Titans, in which Cam Ward hasn’t looked good at all. I’m not saying he’ll throw a pick-six, but the Texans are in a great spot to dominate one of the worst teams in the NFL this week.
8. New England Patriots:
The Patriots were one of my sleeper defenses coming into this year. They will be facing the Panthers this week, who are riding a high after defeating the Falcons at home last week. Look for the Patriots to get back into the sack column by producing four-plus sacks this week on Bryce Young.
9. Los Angeles Rams:
Of course, the Rams would make my list and rightfully so since their defense held the Super Bowl champs for most of the game. Even so, the Rams defense has recorded 12 sacks, three fumble recoveries, and one interception. With the Colts coming to town this week, you can expect Danny to be throwing no dimes, once this defensive line puts Jones on his back the entire day.
10. Baltimore Ravens:
The Ravens probably shouldn’t be on my list this week, but the Chiefs haven’t proved that they can score. They also proved that they can’t protect Mahomes, which could open up the Ravens pass rush. So, for this week, look for the Ravens to upset the Chiefs and show everyone why they deserve to be on this list this week.
