NFL Two-Minute Drill: Week 8

Chris looks at the latest injury news prior to Week 8 kickoff.

MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA - OCTOBER 23: Brock Purdy #13 of the San Francisco 49ers looks to pass on the run during an NFL football game between the Minnesota Vikings and the San Francisco 49ers at U.S. Bank Stadium on October 23, 2023 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. (Photo by Michael Owens/Getty Images)

Two Minute Drill

  • QB Brock Purdy, San Francisco 49ers – Purdy cleared concussion protocol and will start vs. the Bengals. The 49ers are without Deebo Samuel and LT Trent Williams is questionable, but you can still start Purdy. Make sure to remove Sam Darnold from your lineups if you were anticipating for Purdy to miss today’s game.

  • WR Tyler Lockett, Seattle Seahawks – The Seahawks are expecting Lockett to play. He has a tough matchup against the top pass defense in the league (Browns), and with a lingering hamstring issue, I would avoid playing Lockett if you have a backup on your bench.

  • RB Raheem Mostert, Miami Dolphins – The Dolphins are expecting Mostert to play against the Patriots. He is a must-start in this AFC East matchup. The Patriots are about league average at defending the run, but have some injuries to their front seven this week, so Mostert will have an easy time racking up the yards and scoring at least one TD.

  • WR Curtis Samuel, Washington Commanders – Samuel is a game-time decision, but I would avoid him if he does play. Sam Howell will be under pressure all day and will not have enough time in the pocket to connect with Samuel.

  • WR Michael Thomas, New Orleans Saints – Thomas was a late add to the Saints’ injury report with an illness. After Bijan Robinson only logged a single carry while dealing with an undisclosed illness last week, I would fade Thomas today in case he also leaves the game early.

  • RB Jerome Ford, Cleveland Browns – Ford’s status will be a game-time decision, but he is worth playing if he is active. The Seahawks have a great run defense, but Cleveland is turning to PJ Walker again this week. Even if Ford splits touches with Kareem Hunt, the game will remain close, so Ford will still get plenty of opportunities.

  • RB Zack Moss, Indianapolis Colts – Moss is a game-time decision for the Colts. He has a tough matchup against the Saints who are allowing less than 100 rush yards per game this year. It also looks like Jonathan Taylor is ready to reclaim the lead back role after 18 carries for 75 yards and a TD last week against the Browns. I would fade Moss as it seems he will be switching to a secondary role soon.
