Why AFC West Wide Receivers Are Not Worth Drafting In Early Rounds

Bryce looks at the wide receivers in the AFC West and whether they are worth drafting in the early rounds of your Fantasy Football drafts.

The AFC West is loaded with talent from players to coaches, but are the wide receivers in this division worthy of being your team’s WR1 or WR2? There is only one wideout that is worth the early-round pick, and that is Davante Adams. Outside of Adams, there is not a single AFC West receiver that I trust as a WR1/2 to help carry my team the whole season, but these guys would deserve a look in later rounds if they are still there. Let’s walk through some receivers that get buzz around their fantasy value and break down why I cannot trust them.

Keenan Allen, Los Angeles Chargers

Allen is as reliable as you can get when it comes to a receiver. He catches everything, scores a decent amount of touchdowns year to year and is almost a perennial 1,000-yard receiver. However, Allen is 31 years old and missed seven games last season due to a hamstring injury. Not to mention the Chargers drafted Quentin Johnston who is already making plays in camp and preseason. There is too much risk with Allen concerning his age, injury history and another playmaker being added to this offense.

Jerry Jeudy, Denver Broncos

Unfortunately, Jeudy has already proven why you cannot trust him this season once again. He was carted off with a hamstring injury in practice last week and is expected to miss several weeks. Jeudy has yet to play all games in a season in all three of his years in the NFL. The expectations for Jeudy are always high, but we have only seen flashes of how good he can be. Jeudy is not someone I would target to be a WR2 for your fantasy team.

Anyone That Plays For The Kansas City Chiefs

Your guess is as good as mine when it comes to which Chiefs wide receiver you should draft. Travis Kelce is going to be the number one target for Patrick Mahomes regardless, but when it comes to guys like Kadarius Toney, Rashee Rice, Skyy Moore, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Justyn Ross, no one has separated themselves from the pack. Toney has struggled with injuries his whole career including a knee injury he is recovering from. Rice, Moore and Ross are all looking to leave their mark on the offense, and all of them have made plays in camp and preseason. There are better options for you to target as your WR2 than any Chiefs wideout.

Mike Williams, Los Angeles Chargers

When Williams is on the field, he proves he can be an impact player. Look no further than his 2021 season when he recorded over 1,100 yards and nine touchdowns in 16 games. The question around Williams is “if he will be on the field.” He has also battled injuries for the majority of his career. Williams is another receiver who has yet to play every game in a season. With Allen and Johnston now on the field, it is a risk to count on Williams to be a solid WR2 for your team.
