Fantasy Football Weekly Journal

Thanksgiving week is here, and with that comes our first full slate of games since week 4.  September games seem like a distant memory, and navigating bye weeks and injuries has become the norm for many teams.  I added an orphan team in week 8, bringing my total to 13 redraft teams, with 8 clinching a playoff berth as play begins in week 13.  I’m hopeful that more will be added to the list each week until the playoffs begin.  I feel fortunate that all teams still have at least a remote chance at the playoffs, so winning all of the matchups is really what I control.  Let’s take a look at the three teams we’ve been following.

Danger Family

While this team clinched a playoff berth before this week, a double win would have locked up the number 1 seed; however, that didn’t happen, as the #12 seed got the head-to-head win over me this week to push it out another week.  I’m using Bryce Young as a QB here, so I’m really searching for an upgrade in this position from waivers when injuries occur. History tells us we can expect 12 new starting QBs the rest of the way, so there should be one who is adequate coming up. I just need to be ready to pounce when that player becomes available.  One more win will ensure the league’s best record, but so far, no game in week 15 as the team has clinched a first-round bye.  I now begin to look at matchups with TE as well to make sure I’m best positioned with Kicker, Defense, TE, and QB for those playoff matchups, as they are the weeks that really matter.

This team did get the win to go to 4-8 overall and still in 12th place, but only 2 games out of the playoffs with 2 to play.  I do think this team might come up short for the playoffs, but right now I’m just trying to get the record to 6-8 and see what that does.  The two losses by less than a point really have come to hurt here, but that is the variance of fantasy football.  This is the only redraft team I have that is actually outside of the playoffs, looking in, so it’s good to have a team we are following that isn’t having success, as managing it is different.  Remember, this team had all QBs early in the year; however, once I wasn’t able to get out to a lead with all the QBs, I really had to transition to a team that could mix and match starting players to put the best combination together each week. This week, my team plays another 4-8 team, so hopefully another win is in store to keep compiling wins and get to 1 game back with 1 to play.  The #5 vs #6 play this week with a record of 6-6, so one team will not be achievable for me; however, the other, I should be 1 game behind with 1 to play.  Both of them play a non-playoff team in week 14, though, with me heading to the #1 seed, so the journey is a challenge. But controlling what I can control is what is in front of me: getting another win.  It’s the position I’ve placed my team in, so now it’s time to swing and string wins.

Clown Head Redraft I

This team won last week with an 8-4 record and the #3 seed.  It looks like getting 2 wins should allow the team to get a bye, as both teams ahead have 9-3 records and comparable overall points.  I’m very happy with this team, as it has Drake London returning for the playoff push.  I do have the CMC bye week 14 to navigate; however, it’s time to focus on week 13.  No bye weeks, so this team is at full strength.  I’m going to add another RB just to have some extra options.  I put in claims for about 5 different RBs so that I get some options in addition to Tucker, Ford, & JSN to go along with Javonte, especially for week 14.  Looking at the overall roster, I feel confident in all the other positions outside of RB, so I’ll go as far as Javonte and CMC are healthy.

It’s the time of year when we want to see you punch your playoff tickets each week.  Post your playoff-bound leagues.
