Dynasty Corner: Draft Week

The reason I play dynasty fantasy football is really because I love to add rookies to my club. Draft week is one of my favorites,  even more so than the regular season.

Rookie drafts are around the corner and this is the time that I can win the season.  My strategy has changed over the years as I’ve watched dynasty players simply get better and news travel lightening at speed. How I’m currently playing at this time of the year is simply being more patient and not reacting to all the news or hype.

I trust that I’ve made great decisions so far and I’ll simply keep the selections or take the best possible players.  I let the NFL do the research for me as I really believe that even though they aren’t always correct they have more resources for an opportunity to be correct in rookie selections.

I try to make sure I don’t trade just to trade, and I assign player names to the picks I trade for or trade away. This week, I decided not to trade away 1.02 because I think the ability to move Cam Ward after the draft will be the same as I was getting for 1.02 before the draft.  I exclusively take value at each spot no matter the need.  I do value QB in most of my leagues similar to the NFL as they seem to be the most scarce and highest scoring position in my leagues.

These assets are usually ranked higher than consensus, however I still take my highest ranked player in each draft every time.  I do move players around slightly as more information is revealed about their role in an offense or simply projected playing time.  The best advice is to stay calm relying on the hard work you’ve done with your team and allow others to simply make mistake trades. While they may win trades, they will also lose trades and by staying still you begin to beat the competition.
