Dr. Roto’s Daily Prescription 7/24: Kadarius Toney Hurts His Knee (Again)

Dr. Roto explains how to react to Kadarius Toney’s newest injury in fantasy football.

It didn’t take long for Chiefs WR Kadarius Toney to “tweak” his knee while catching punts on Sunday. This is just another in the long, long, long line of injuries that Toney has suffered in his career.

I have been buying into Toney in many of my Best Ball drafts and in my Scott Fish Bowl draft too. The talent is there and with Andy Reid’s play calling and Patrick Mahomes’ arm, I’m convinced he can be very productive as the Chiefs WR1 … if he can stay on the field. The best ability in the NFL is availability. Without that, no player can succeed.

Now that Toney’s availability is in question (again), four names I want you to tuck away for your drafts are:

Skyy Moore: Last year’s second-round pick for KC. I think he’s ready to emerge and, without Toney, could be the WR1 for Kansas City.

Rashee Rice: The 2023 second-rounder was an exceptional receiver at SMU and has been training with Mahomes this off-season. His route running is crisp, and his hands are terrific.

Justyn Ross: Ross is another player who has been working with Mahomes in the off-season. Patrick Mahomes, Sr. was talking about how good Ross looked in practice. Ross has dealt with his own injuries, but he has size that will help him in matchups.

Richie James: You might recall that he was the Giants’ WR1 for much of last season. The Chiefs brought him in for depth, but he works hard and should be WR4 with more upside.

I will be keeping my eye on Toney’s injury and will update further when I know more. For now, I will lower my shares of Toney, up my shares of Moore and Rice, and keep a watchful eye on the progressions of Ross and James in training camp.
