Top MLB Opening Day Prop Picks

Mookie Betts MORE Than 8 Fantasy Points

Mookie is facing Miles Mikolas tonight, who pitches to a lot of contact, which leads to plenty of hits and runs being scored. Expect Mookie to get at least four, if not five at-bats in this game against him and a suspect Cardinals bullpen. He’s an MVP candidate every season and is one of the best hitters in baseball. Something as simple as a walk, a single, and a run scored would give Mookie over eight fantasy points today.

Tarik Skubal MORE Than 6.5 Strikeouts

Skubal has developed into one of the top pitchers in the American League and racks up a ton of strikeouts when he takes the mound. He gets a weak opponent for Opening Day in the Chicago White Sox, who are expected to be one of the three worst teams in MLB this season. Skubal should dominate in this matchup and it’s worth noting that he had six Ks in two of his final three spring outings. He only went over five innings in one of them, but he is now stretched out to go at least six innings, which will give him more opportunities to rack up Ks.

Gleyber Torres MORE Than 0.5 Runs

The plan for the Yankees is to have Torres batting leadoff, at least until D.J. LeMahieu returns. This means that he will hit in front of two of the best hitters in baseball, Juan Soto and Aaron Judge. Torres is facing a LHP in Framber Valdez, who is a good pitcher generally but did struggle at times vs. right-handed batters last season. Torres will see four or five at-bats in this game, and if he can even get on base once, there’s a good chance that one of the Yankees’ superstar bats will drive him in. Torres also has legit power, so he has the potential to hit a HR and drive himself in.

Zach Eflin MORE Than 4.5 Strikeouts

Eflin is coming off a career season in 2023 and will look to build off of it in 2024. He is fully stretched out heading into the season after throwing six innings in his final spring training start. He recorded eight Ks in that outing and is facing a Toronto lineup tonight that strikes out at an above-average rate. There are also a lot of right-handed hitters in the Jays’ lineup, and Efflin was dominant against righties last season. He should have no problem pitching at least six innings and racking up six or seven Ks in the process.

Luis Castillo MORE Than 6.5 Strikeouts

Castillo finished his spring on a strong note. He went at least five innings in both of his last two outings, and he is fully stretched out and ready to go for the season opener. In his final start, he struck out nine hitters. He is facing a Red Sox lineup tonight that is simply not good aside from Rafael Devers. Even Devers is prone to strikeouts, and I expect to see Castillo go at least six innings with eight or more strikeouts tonight, especially at home in his pitcher-friendly ballpark.
