Doc discusses what Darren Waller’s retirement means for the rest of the Giants TE group!

With Darren Waller recently retired, many fantasy football managers were hoping that New York Giants rookie TE Theo Johnson would walk right into the starting lineup.
I’m not banking on this for multiple reasons: 1) It takes tight ends longer to acclimate to the rigors of the NFL, and 2) Johnson was just placed on the PUP with a hip injury. It’s possible that the injury is minor which could allow him to be available for training camp, but I am thinking that it might bleed into the beginning part of the season putting him in jeopardy of missing games.
Daniel Bellinger should be firmly entrenched as the Giants starting TE. Additionally, look for Lawrence Cager to be the team’s backup. If Johnson is able to get some reps during training camp he should start the season as the TE3.
I like Bellinger in the TE 14-16 range. He is someone I’m not afraid to draft if I decide to wait on the position in deeper leagues.
