Week 6 in the NFL is here and with some defenses falling out from this list, other defenses took the opportunity to jump in. Hopscotch aside, all of these defenses deserve their recognition, so let’s get to another week of defensive talk. Have a great day, everyone, and may the tackles be with you.

1. Atlanta Falcons: 244.0 Total Yards Against

The Falcons weigh in as the best defense overall, while only giving up eight touchdowns. This week, the Bills are coming to town to test that defense, and you can count on them probably dropping the Falcons a few spots on these rankings.

2. Cleveland Browns: 247.8 Total Yards Against

After playing well for most of the game, the Browns found a way to lose in the end to the Vikings. This week, they’ll be in Pittsburgh to face their division rivals, the Steelers.

3. Houston Texans: 265.8 Total Yards Against

After beating the Ravens down who were without Lamar Jackson, the Texans earned a bye week. After recording three interceptions from Cooper Rush, they’ll be back at it in week 7 against the Seahawks.

4. Green Bay Packers: 283.3 Total Yards Against

The Packers defense has surprised many people this year, and since the addition of Micah Parsons, it feels like they could be the best all-around defense. Coming off a bye, they get the hapless Bengals with Joe Flacco to the rescue.

5. Denver Broncos: 288.6 Total Yards Against

The Broncos defense showed their stuff by defeating the Super Bowl Champions Eagles, in Philly. Their next opponent is the Jets, whom they should get the win over in a tough defensive game.

6. Minnesota Vikings: 289.8 Total Yards Against

Have a good defense, and since their great game against the Bengals, haven’t looked the same. The Vikings are off this week, which should help them fix their problems and give them some rest.

7. Los Angeles Chargers: 293.8 Total Yards Against

This week, the Chargers will be in Miami playing the Dolphins, who showed they can still move the ball without Tyreek Hill. With Hill out, this makes things a lot easier for the Chargers, who should win this game.

8. Detroit Lions: 298.8 Total Yards Against

Ever since the week 1 loss to the Packers, the Lions have been phenomenal. After recording two sacks and three interceptions against the Bengals, they hope to carry some of that momentum against the Chiefs this week.

9. Buffalo Bills: 299.6 Total Yards Against

The Bills defense acted like a piece of Swiss cheese last week against the Patriots, who upset them in the end. This week, they get a fresh Falcons team with Bijan Robinson to right their defensive woes, if they can.

10. Los Angeles Rams: 309.0 Total Yards Against

The Rams lost against an injury-ridden 49ers team on Thursday Night Football last week. This week, the Rams are playing the Ravens in Baltimore, who could have their star quarterback, Lamar Jackson, back this week.

The Buccaneers defense is leaky in some areas, especially for points against. They’re also inconsistent at times, but overall, they’re about the middle of the pack,  which is actually a step up from last year.

12. Carolina Panthers: 311.6 Total Yards Against

It was funny to see everyone running to pick up the Panthers defense after shutting out the Falcons. Since then, they’ve given up 66 points and have the Cowboys coming to town this week.

13. Kansas City Chiefs: 314.0 Total Yards Against

The Chiefs defense looked reborn against the Ravens, and then they followed that up with a loss to the Jaguars. This week their Kryptonite is coming to Kansas City in the form of Jared Goff, who has had Patrick Mahomes number since they’re great game against the Rams.

14. Indianapolis Colts: 315.0 Total Yards Against

The Colts have surprised everyone this year and have shown why you don’t need big names across the entire defense to be good. This week, the Cardinals are coming to Indianapolis to deflate that bubble and send them straight to the glue factory.

15. San Francisco 49ers: 315.6 Total Yards Against

The 49ers showed us all last week that you can never count them out by defeating the Rams. With two key fumble recoveries and a fourth-down stop, they showed why you should never bet against Kyle Shanahan.

16. Seattle Seahawks: 322.8 Total Yards Against

The Seahawks have been one of the sneakiest defenses in the NFL up until their game against the Buccaneers last week. This week, they get another test with the Jaguars, who are still riding high after beating the Chiefs last week.

17. New Orleans Saints: 326.2 Total Yards Against

A lot of people would be surprised to see the Saints defense so high on this list, but they’re doing it the hard way. After facing some great offenses this year, like the Bills, they got a treat against the Giants, which led to one sack, two interceptions, three fumble recoveries, and a touchdown, just like I said on my podcast last week.

18. New England Patriots: 327.8 Total Yards Against

Dec 1, 2024; Foxborough, Massachusetts, USA; A general overview of the game field with the Pat Patriot throwback logo at Gillette Stadium prior to a game against the Indianapolis Colts. Mandatory Credit: Eric Canha-Imagn Images

The Patriots defense has had it easy for the most part this year, up until the Bills game last week. That was when they showed they were made of sterner stuff by defeating the Bills in Buffalo.

19. Las Vegas Raiders: 328.2 Total Yards Against

Nov 17, 2019; Oakland, CA, USA; General overall the Oakland Raiders shield logo at midfield at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum. Mandatory Credit: Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Being nineteenth on this list isn’t bad, but also isn’t good either. The Raiders defense has given up more than 40 points twice this season, which shows why I told everyone to attack them all year for fantasy football.

20. Philadelphia Eagles: 338.2 Total Yards Against

Feb 7, 2023; Phoenix, AZ, USA; The Philadelphia Eagles logo in the end zone prior to Super Bowl 57 at State Farm Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Super Bowl champs haven’t had it easy and finally lost their first game of the year against the Broncos. However, after playing the Cowboys, Chiefs, Rams, and the Buccaneers to start the year, they’re lucky to be ranked this high. However, easier days are ahead, and it started this week against the Giants.
