The Chicago Bears have received another encouraging update on quarterback Caleb Williams ahead of their Week 6 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons. Williams has taken another major step in his recovery from a hamstring injury and appears increasingly likely to return to the lineup after missing the past three games.
The development would be significant for a Bears team that has managed to stay competitive without its starting quarterback but struggled offensively in last week’s loss to the Green Bay Packers. Getting Williams back would provide Chicago with a major boost as it prepares for a road matchup against Atlanta.
Caleb Williams continues to make progress

Williams suffered a Grade 2 right hamstring strain during Chicago’s Week 2 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. The injury forced him to miss three consecutive games, although the Bears managed to go 2-1 during his absence.
The quarterback began showing signs of a potential return last week when he returned to practice and participated in limited work ahead of Chicago’s Week 5 matchup. He did not play against Green Bay, but the Bears have continued increasing his activity.
Williams was listed as a full participant in Wednesday’s estimated injury report, although Chicago held a walkthrough rather than a traditional practice. Head coach Ben Johnson said the quarterback’s status remained βfluid,β but added that he felt good about the plan the team had in place.
Williams then participated fully again Thursday, providing another significant indication that his return is getting closer. NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported that Williams is pushing to play Sunday against Atlanta.
Bears appear to be preparing for his return

While Chicago has not officially announced Williams as its starter, the progression throughout the week has provided plenty of optimism. Two consecutive full practices represent a major step for a player returning from a hamstring injury, particularly after missing three games.
Williams’ return could also dramatically change the outlook for Chicago’s offense. Before the injury, he had thrown for 407 yards and two touchdowns while adding 65 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns through two games.
The Bears will still need to make sure Williams is fully comfortable before putting him back on the field. Johnson previously emphasized that player health remains the team’s top priority and acknowledged that the quarterback situation requires consideration beyond just one game.
For now, however, all signs are pointing in the right direction. After three games on the sidelines, Williams appears to be on track for a potential return Sunday against the Falcons, giving Chicago a major boost heading into Week 6.
