Dr. Roto’s Daily Prescription 8/7: High Stakes Draft Results

Dr. Roto takes you through the first handful of rounds from his high stakes draft.

With Mrs. Roto and the little Rotos away on vacation, I decided to do a few high-stakes drafts over the weekend (she won’t leave me alone anymore after this lol). The one I did on Sunday was somewhat shocking in that one team decided to auto-draft 19 of 20 rounds which completely skewed the draft and ruined everyone’s experience. Do not let that be you when auto-drafting!

However, I did get a chance to see some excellent drafters in my room and I have a better feel for the player pool as it stands right now. Players tend to get pushed up as August goes by and people watch preseason games, so I need to pay attention to the ADP risers and fallers.

Here is a quick snapshot of my team’s first few rounds (I had Pick 10 in a third-round reversal). This team turned out to be a Zero RB squad but that was not my intention at the time, more of the way it turned out.

1.10. Stefon Diggs—I thought about CeeDee Lamb and Saquon Barkley but I decided to take the WR1 on one of the top offenses.

2.03 Garrett Wilson—I contemplated taking Josh Allen with this pick for the hookup but could not pass on Wilson who I see as a first-round talent.

3.03 Tee Higgins—Allen and Hurts went right before me so QB was out. I thought about DK Metcalf too but just love the Bengals playoff schedule.

4.10 Mike Williams—The Chargers are one of my favorite offenses this season as new OC Kellen Moore is going to use Justin Herbert’s arm downfield.

5.03 Justin Herbert—I did not anticipate taking Herbert here but this league is 6 points per passing TD and I like getting the Herbert/Williams hookup.

6.10 Kyle Pitts—If I had this one to do over again I might have chosen to take a running back, but I have been waiting for Pitts to break out for two years now. Is 2023 finally the year?

7.03 David Montgomery—I waited forever for my RB1 and decided to take Montgomery. He’s solid and should have a great chance to score 10 TDs in a good offense.

Analysis: My original plan was to take RBs in Rounds 5 and 6 but I decided that Herbert and Pitts were too good to pass on. Herbert could be a top 3 QB in a 6 pt. per TD pass format. I should have passed on Pitts as I was able to get Greg Dulcich in Round 12. That may turn out to be the pick that costs me the league.
