The 2024 Dallas Cowboys have a lot to hand their hats on, but in the end, it was the same old story. In Jerry’s world, only one thing exists, and that’s drama mixed in with high-salary contracts. Dallas finished third in the NFC East at 7-10, which included a mid-season slide of losing five games in a row. Next year should be promising with a new head coach on the way and Dak Prescott healthy once again.
QB:
Dak Prescott
Speaking of Dak Prescott, after finally getting his contract done and the season underway until he partially tore his hamstring. Before that, Prescott wasn’t doing anything spectacular, sporting an 86.0 quarterback rating through eight games. However, Prescott usually follows up a bad year with a good year, so he’ll be due in 2025 if he can stay healthy.
RB:
Rico Dowdle
Rico Dowdle had plenty of naysayers before the season started, but down the stretch, he showed that he can produce if given the touches. He made a lot of fantasy football owners look like geniuses during that stretch at the end of the season. The only thing he’ll need to work on next year is making the most of his red zone opportunities since he only scored four touchdowns the whole year.
WR:
CeeDee Lamb
Last year, I ranked Ceedee Lamb as my number one wide receiver in my fantasy football rankings. Even though he only played 15 games, Lamb still caught 101 receptions and had six touchdowns as well. What more could you ask from a bonafide number one when healthy? Let’s hope both he and Prescott can do that next year, which could lead to them dropping in most experts rankings, giving you a steal in your 2025 drafts.
Defense:
With a defense that has a ton of stars on it, at times, they looked like they didn’t want to be out there. From bonehead plays by some and injuries on top of that, the Cowboys defense never had a foothold until it was too late in the season. This led to them being ranked 28th overall with one of the worst run defenses in the league.
Coaching:
Mike McCarthy
Mike McCarthy and the Dallas Cowboys finally parted ways after what had become similar to what happened with Wade Phillips when he was in Dallas. Like Phillips, McCarthy not only became stale but also lost his team and himself along the way. The team forgot their purpose as well, and what many feel is the reason he’s taking the 2025 season off as of now. That led to the hiring of Brian Schottenheimer as their new head coach. Jerry believes that Schottenheimer’s offensive genius comes from his father, which may unlock the Cowboys’ full potential, hopefully making them viable again. If he’s wrong, it will set the Cowboys three years back at minimum.
