The Indianapolis Colts have made their asking price clear for Jonathan Taylor as trade talks heat up ahead of the NFL trade deadline. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Indianapolis would seek a compensation package similar to what the San Francisco 49ers gave the Carolina Panthers for Christian McCaffrey in 2022.
That deal could set a significant price for teams hoping to acquire Taylor, who remains one of the NFL’s most productive running backs.
Colts want a McCaffrey-type package

In 2022, San Francisco sent Carolina a second-, third-, fourth- and fifth-round pick to acquire McCaffrey. The Colts would like to receive a similar collection of draft capital in return for Taylor.
Indianapolis has already received an offer involving a second-round pick and additional compensation, but the team is seeking more before agreeing to move its star running back. Multiple teams have expressed interest, including the Denver Broncos, Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants.
The asking price represents a significant amount of draft capital, but Taylor’s contract could make him more appealing to potential suitors. He is under contract through 2028, with base salaries of $15 million in 2027 and $9.46 million in 2028.
Taylor continues to provide plenty of value

Taylor has continued to produce at a high level for Indianapolis this season. Through seven games, he has rushed for 587 yards and eight touchdowns, while adding 17 receptions for 178 yards. His eight rushing touchdowns are tied for the NFL lead.
The Colts’ willingness to discuss a trade represents a significant change from earlier in the season. Indianapolis had previously indicated that it preferred to keep Taylor as part of its plans, but the team is now actively engaging with interested clubs.
Taylor also met with Colts owner and CEO Carlie Irsay-Gordon this week for an in-depth conversation about his future. Indianapolis reportedly still has an affinity for Taylor and would prefer to keep him, but the potential return could be too valuable to ignore.
With the Nov. 10 deadline approaching, the Colts now have a clear benchmark in mind. Any team that wants Taylor will likely have to come close to the type of package San Francisco surrendered for McCaffrey four years ago.
