Lamar Jackson’s potential return has taken another uncertain turn ahead of the Baltimore Ravens’ Week 7 matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals. After missing the last two games with an ankle injury, Jackson practiced in a limited capacity throughout the week, but the latest update suggests his status could come down to the final hours before kickoff.

Lamar Jackson remains a 50/50 call

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported Saturday that Jackson is considered “50/50” to play against Cincinnati. Fowler added that the Ravens remain hopeful the two-time MVP can return, but the team is not overly optimistic about his chances at this point.

Jackson was officially listed as questionable after participating on a limited basis for three consecutive practices. He has been dealing with a high ankle sprain and has not played since suffering the injury during Baltimore’s Week 4 victory over Tennessee.

The quarterback offered a more encouraging assessment Friday, saying he was “heading in the right direction” but acknowledging that the decision had not yet been made. Jackson explained that pain tolerance and his ability to move normally will ultimately determine whether he can play.

That leaves Baltimore with a difficult decision. Jackson has made progress this week after not practicing at all during the previous two weeks, but the Ravens clearly do not want to rush their franchise quarterback back before he is capable of protecting himself and operating effectively.

Ravens could turn back to Tyler Huntley

If Jackson is unable to play, Tyler Huntley would make his third consecutive start for Baltimore. Huntley has already guided the Ravens to a victory over Atlanta but struggled in last week’s loss to Cleveland.

The difference Jackson makes to Baltimore’s offense has been significant. Through his three appearances this season, he completed 70.8% of his passes for 967 yards, six touchdowns and just one interception, while also adding a rushing touchdown. The Ravens have scored substantially more with Jackson on the field than they have without him.

The matchup also carries major importance for the Ravens. Baltimore enters Week 7 at 4-2 and is tied atop the AFC North, while Cincinnati comes into the game at 3-2 after its bye.

Jackson’s status could ultimately remain unclear until the Ravens announce their inactive players Sunday morning. For now, the latest report makes it clear that his highly anticipated return against Cincinnati is far from guaranteed.
