Marvin Harrison Jr.’s time with the Arizona Cardinals appears to be coming to an end, but his next team will not be revealed until after Week 5 action is complete. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Saturday that the Cardinals are finalizing a trade involving the former No. 4 overall pick, while Harrison has been ruled inactive for Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions.

Harrison will sit out Week 5

The Cardinals informed Harrison that he would be inactive for Sunday’s matchup with Detroit as the details of the trade are finalized. The team acquiring him has not yet been publicly identified, creating plenty of intrigue around where the talented wide receiver will land.

Schefter has reported that the Houston Texans are among the teams that have been involved in trade discussions with Arizona. However, Houston has not confirmed that it will ultimately acquire Harrison, and the Cardinals have reportedly continued listening to other offers.

That means Harrison’s Week 5 absence is not believed to be injury-related. Instead, Arizona is keeping him out while the organization works toward completing a blockbuster trade involving its former first-round selection.

Harrison has struggled to establish the type of production expected from a player selected fourth overall in 2024. Through four games this season, he has just five receptions for 85 yards and one touchdown.

The decision to trade Harrison represents a stunning development for an NFL player who entered the league with enormous expectations after a standout career at Ohio State.

Harrison has 108 receptions for 1,578 yards and 13 touchdowns over 33 career games with Arizona, but his role has diminished considerably this season. The emergence of Michael Wilson and continued involvement of tight end Trey McBride have contributed to Harrison becoming less prominent in Arizona’s offense.

Now, the Cardinals appear prepared to turn the page.

The biggest remaining question is where Harrison will play next. Houston has emerged as a reported contender, while other teams have been linked to the possibility of acquiring the 24-year-old receiver. The Cardinals are reportedly seeking significant draft compensation for a player who still possesses tremendous upside despite his disappointing start to the 2026 season.

For now, Harrison will watch Sunday’s game from the sideline. Once Week 5 concludes, however, the NFL should finally learn where one of its most highly touted young receivers will continue his career.
