Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles suffered another frustrating offensive performance Sunday, falling 24-20 to the Los Angeles Rams after blowing a 20-10 fourth-quarter lead.

While injuries played a major role, the quarterback’s struggles were impossible to overlook as Philadelphia managed just 172 total yards and went 0-for-12 on third down.

Hurts finished the game completing 12 of 27 passes for just 93 yards and two touchdowns. He also added 18 rushing yards on five carries, but his passing production was nowhere near what Philadelphia needed to close out the game. Philadelphia Eagles

The performance was particularly concerning because it marked another difficult outing for Hurts after a rough Week 3 against the Chicago Bears. Through four games, his passing numbers have been inconsistent, with 203 yards in Week 1, 264 in Week 2, 153 in Week 3, and just 93 against the Rams.

Hurts acknowledged the offensive problems after the loss, repeatedly pointing to β€œpoor execution” when asked about Philadelphia’s second-half struggles. The Eagles managed only two completions in the second half, while Hurts threw for just 10 yards after halftime.

Injuries are a factor, but cannot explain everything

Philadelphia certainly had plenty working against it. DeVonta Smith, Dallas Goedert and Lane Johnson were unavailable, while Saquon Barkley left the game early with a hamstring injury. That left Hurts without several of his most important offensive weapons.

Still, the Eagles’ offensive collapse goes beyond one afternoon of injuries. Going 0-for-12 on third down is a massive problem, and Philadelphia failed to generate a single third-down conversion throughout the game.

The Eagles entered the season with Super Bowl expectations, making the recent offensive struggles even more concerning. Hurts remains one of the NFL’s most dangerous dual-threat quarterbacks, but Philadelphia needs much more consistency from its offense if it expects to compete with the league’s best teams.

Sunday’s collapse against Los Angeles made one thing clear: Hurts and the Eagles’ offense have some serious issues to figure out.
