The New England Patriots received some encouraging news regarding running back TreVeyon Henderson as they began preparations for Week 2.

After missing the season opener because of an ankle injury, Henderson returned to practice Monday as the Patriots prepare to host the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel said Henderson would return to practice Monday, marking his first practice participation since suffering the ankle injury on Aug. 24.

Henderson ultimately missed the Patriots’ Week 1 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks after failing to practice throughout the week. New England lost that game 13-10, with Rhamondre Stevenson handling a massive workload in Henderson’s absence.

Still, getting Henderson back on the field this early in the week is a significant development. He has the explosiveness that can change an offense, and with A.J. Brown out for at least four weeks, the Patriots can use all the help they can get.

What it means for Week 2

Henderson’s return would provide a major boost to an offense that struggled to generate explosive plays against Seattle.

Stevenson played 85% of New England’s offensive snaps in Week 1 and received 23 touches, finishing with 51 rushing yards and five receptions for 44 yards. Henderson’s explosive ability could give the Patriots a much-needed change of pace while also taking some pressure off Stevenson.

As a rookie in 2025, Henderson rushed for 911 yards and nine touchdowns while adding 221 receiving yards and another score. He also led the Patriots with 10 explosive runs of at least 15 yards.

For now, Henderson is trending in the right direction for Week 2, but his practice participation throughout the week will be the key thing to watch. The Patriots host the Steelers on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET. Track Henderson’s Week 2 injury status
