The Green Bay Packers still do not know when Josh Jacobs will be able to return to the field, but the latest update makes one thing clear: the NFL’s investigation remains ongoing. Jacobs pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges Thursday, yet the league has not announced a suspension or provided a timetable for disciplinary action.

NFL has no timetable for Jacobs’ suspension

Jacobs remains on the Commissioner’s Exempt List, meaning he cannot practice or play while the NFL reviews the situation. The league confirmed that his status has not changed following his court appearance.

An NFL spokesperson said the league is continuing to monitor the developments and that the matter remains under review through the personal conduct policy.

That means Jacobs’ legal case being resolved does not automatically trigger an immediate NFL suspension.

The 28-year-old running back pleaded no contest to misdemeanor battery and criminal damage to property charges stemming from a May incident. He was ordered to pay a $1,000 fine plus court costs for the battery charge, while the property-damage charge was deferred for 12 months under an agreement that includes counseling, supervision, restitution, and no contact with the alleged victim.

The timing is particularly difficult for Green Bay.

Jacobs was one of the most important players on the Packers’ offense last season, rushing for 929 yards and 13 touchdowns in 15 games. He also caught 36 passes for 282 yards and another touchdown.

Green Bay has already prepared for his absence by adding former Steelers running back Kaleb Johnson and relying more heavily on MarShawn Lloyd and Chris Brooks.

The Packers have maintained that they hope Jacobs will eventually return this season, but the league controls the timeline.

There is also the possibility of a significant suspension. Six games have historically been the NFL’s standard punishment for domestic-violence cases, although the league can issue a shorter or longer suspension depending on the circumstances and information uncovered during its investigation.

For now, the Packers are simply waiting. Jacobs’ legal situation has been resolved, but his NFL future for the immediate portion of the 2026 season remains completely in the hands of the league.
