Baseball has some of the most loyal and passionate fans of any sport around the world, but they also have some fan bases that either don’t show up to the ballpark or who only care if their team is good. With that being said, here are the 10 worst fan bases in MLB right now:
1. Tampa Bay Rays
The Rays have poor attendance constantly. Firstly, their stadium is arguably the worst in MLB. Secondly, they play in Tampa, which is the home of spring training, and there are many fans in the Tampa area who root for other teams. The Rays sometimes have more fans from opposing teams in their ballpark than they do their own fans.
2. Athletics
You would think the A’s would be last on this list, considering they just lost their team. The Athletics are moving to Las Vegas, but their fans are still better and more loyal than that of the Rays.
3. Miami Marlins
Marlins fans show up when the team is good; otherwise, they have very poor attendance. Sadly for the Marlins fans, their team has really only had 2 great seasons in their history. 1997 and 2003 saw them win the World Series.
4. Colorado Rockies
It is hard to blame fans in Colorado for not wanting to show up. They are consistently one of the worst teams in MLB, and their season is probably over before it even begins, especially playing in a loaded NL West division.
5. Washington Nationals
Things in the nation’s capital appear to be improving, but overall, other than their World Series-winning season in 2019, they have only had average attendance records. They do have a fun and exciting young core of players now, though, so things could be on the rise for this fan base and organization.
6. Kansas City Royals
Although ownership has spent a little more money lately, the Royals are a small market team that struggles to draw fans with any consistency. They had a great turnout in 2024, as they even made the playoffs, and they also had incredible turnouts in 2014 and 2015 when they appeared in back-to-back World Series. Beyond those great seasons though, the fans simply don’t show enough support.
7. Cincinnati Reds
The Reds fans are still longing for the days of the Big Red Machine teams in the 1970’s. The Reds haven’t been good in over 30 years and although the team has improved lately, they still have an uphill battle to make the playoffs and therefore get more engagement and attendance from their fans.
8. Minnesota Twins
The Twins do have some dedicated fans, but it is hard to maintain big attendance numbers when you haven’t won an AL pennant since 1991. Ownership did very little this past offseason to improve the ball club, leaving fan frustrated heading into 2025.
9. Chicago White Sox
The White Sox are coming off the worst season we have ever seen. So there is a very good reason why their fanbase is not as loyal as it once was. Still, even after such a bad season and likely another horrible season in 2025, the Sox have a very long history and their fans are loyal.
10. Cleveland Guardians
The Guardians have been consistently good for years, but their ownership doesn’t spend enough money to take their team to the next level and until they are willing to, there will be disappointed fans in Cleveland.
