NFL: Detroit Lions Report Card For 2024

The 2024 season for the Detroit Lions started the way the previous year ended. The Lions could move the ball at will and could dominate any team, in any way possible Dan Campbell wanted. This helped them to be second in the league in total offense and first overall in scoring. The Lions also knew how to finish drives by placing third overall in Red Zone offense with a 69.4 rating. Unfortunately injuries finally caught up with what was one of the NFL’s most exciting teams to watch. Regardless, they ended the year first in the NFC with a 15-2 with most of their key players coming back for the 2025 NFL season.

QB: Jared Goff

Jared Goff proved again why he’s one of the league’s best quarterbacks by having a career year in 2024. With 4,629 passing yards, 37 passing touchdowns, and a quarterback rating of 111.8, Goff not only showed poise in the pocket but stood in there to deliver this magical season for the Lions fans. I don’t see this stopping anytime soon since the Lions are ready to make it back to the playoffs and finally to a Super Bowl.

RB:

Coined Sonic and Knuckles, both Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery gave us a new age version of Warrick Dunn and Mike Alstott, except they’re way better. Both of them combined for 32 total touchdowns, which is outstanding since the Lions passing game was in for all year. Next year should go the same, but I would love to see a slight shift towards Gibbs’ usage, which showed at the end of the year once Montgomery went down. Gibbs simply destroyed it and cemented himself as a DFS threat and a future star in the NFL.

WR: Amon Ra St. Brown

Amon Ra St. Brown led one of the league’s most explosive offenses with 115 receptions, 1,263 receiving yards, and 12 touchdowns to go with it. St. Brown did it with screens, fades, and bombs galore showing me can catch a ball from any position on the field. St. Brown is truly special and going forward you can expect this Motor City speedster to keep improving as Detroit’s other superstar.

Defense:

The Detroit Lions defense looked great until the injuries caught up, taking out Aiden Hutchison, who is their defensive captain. The Lions finished the year 20th overall but did finish the year best on third downs and ninth in the red zone. With Hutchinson coming back, adding a key free agent, or maybe trading for Myles Garrett, you can bet Dan Campbell has something up his sleeves.

Coaching: Dan Campbell

Speaking of the man who could hide a truck up his sleeve, Dan Campbell quickly shut his critics up after getting scrutiny for some of his playcalling. I, myself, made a whole podcast about it, but one thing is for sure: the Lions aren’t going away anytime soon and easily could lead the NFC again next year. Campbell has earned everyone’s respect and has made the Detroit Lions a powerhouse in the NFL. Now all they need is a Super Bowl win and if they have a great off-season like i mentioned earlier, that fantasy could become a reality.
