Brian Thomas Jr.’s future with the Jacksonville Jaguars has suddenly become one of the more intriguing NFL storylines heading toward the trade deadline. Teams around the league are reportedly curious to see what Jacksonville plans to do with the talented wide receiver, and a trade could become a possibility if another team is willing to make a strong offer.

That doesn’t mean the Jaguars are actively shopping Thomas. In fact, Jacksonville has repeatedly indicated that it values the former first-round pick. But his diminished role early in the 2026 season has opened the door to legitimate questions about whether the organization could eventually decide to move him.

Thomas’ role has become a major storyline

Thomas was selected No. 23 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft and immediately showed why Jacksonville viewed him as a potential cornerstone. As a rookie, he caught 87 passes for 1,282 yards and 10 touchdowns.

His production dropped considerably in 2025, however, and his role has continued to shrink this season. Through three games, Thomas has recorded only seven catches for 88 yards, including just one reception for eight yards in Jacksonville’s Week 3 win over New England.

The Week 3 performance was particularly notable because Thomas played just 23 offensive snaps while fellow receivers Parker Washington and Jakobi Meyers each played 50. That has fueled speculation that Thomas may no longer be a central part of Jacksonville’s offensive plans.

Still, the Jaguars haven’t simply given up on him.

Jaguars could demand a significant return

NFL.com reported that general manager James Gladstone addressed the growing trade rumors and indicated that Thomas remains a Jaguar for now, while acknowledging that an offer could potentially change the situation.

That distinction is important. Jacksonville isn’t reportedly looking to give Thomas away, particularly considering his age and the production he showed during his rookie season.

There is also precedent for the Jaguars turning down significant offers. Reports earlier this year indicated Jacksonville had rejected multiple substantial trade proposals for Thomas before the 2025 trade deadline.

But the situation could be different now. Thomas’ reduced role, combined with the emergence of Washington and Meyers, has created a scenario where another team could make an aggressive offer for a receiver who still possesses considerable upside.

For now, Brian Thomas Jr. remains a member of the Jaguars, but his name is clearly one to watch as the trade deadline approaches. If Jacksonville decides to move him, it appears the asking price will need to be significant.
