The Philadelphia Eagles will be without one of their most important offensive weapons for at least the next few weeks. Tight end Dallas Goedert suffered a sprained MCL during Sunday’s 24-20 comeback victory over the Tennessee Titans, and additional testing on Monday confirmed the injury.

Goedert’s absence creates a significant issue for an Eagles offense that is already dealing with injuries at the tight end position. The veteran had been off to a strong start to the 2026 NFL season.

Goedert was injured midway through the second quarter while blocking on a run play. A Titans defender made contact with his leg, and Goedert immediately went down before eventually leaving the game. He did not return after playing 19 offensive snaps.

Goedert finished the game with one catch for four yards on two targets, but his absence was felt as Philadelphia worked its way back from a 20-17 deficit to defeat Tennessee.

The 31-year-old tight end underwent an MRI on Monday, which revealed the MCL sprain. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Goedert is expected to miss a few weeks.

There is currently no exact timetable for his return. The Eagles could also consider placing Goedert on injured reserve, which would require him to miss at least four games.

Eagles face major depth issue at tight end

The injury is particularly problematic because Philadelphia is already short-handed at the position. Rookie Eli Stowers is on injured reserve and cannot return until at least Week 5, while Grant Calcaterra is also unavailable. That leaves Johnny Mundt and E.J. Jenkins as the healthy tight ends currently on the active roster, with Josiah Deguara on the practice squad.

Goedert was coming off a strong 2025 season in which he established career highs with 60 receptions and 11 touchdowns. He also opened this season with four catches for 77 yards and two touchdowns against Washington before suffering the MCL injury against Tennessee.

His absence means Jalen Hurts and the Eagles will have to adjust their offensive approach while Goedert recovers. Philadelphia is scheduled to face the Chicago Bears in Week 3, and the Eagles will now have to determine how they handle the tight end position until their starter is healthy enough to return.
