The Toronto Blue Jays are bringing back a familiar face as they prepare for a crucial three-game series against the Detroit Tigers. Toronto announced Monday that Davis Schneider has been recalled from Triple-A Buffalo and will be active for tonight’s game against Detroit.
Davis Schneider is back with the Blue Jays
Schneider has bounced between Toronto and Buffalo several times this season, and he is now back with the Blue Jays at an important point in the season.
The 27-year-old has struggled offensively during his time in the majors in 2026, hitting .142/.295/.274 over 62 games. However, Schneider has been much more productive at Triple-A, where he has posted a .910 OPS with 10 home runs in 52 games.
That recent success in Buffalo could give Toronto some hope that Schneider can provide an offensive spark during the final weeks of the regular season.
Schneider last played for the Blue Jays on Aug. 21 against the New York Yankees before being optioned back to Buffalo.
Blue Jays make multiple roster moves
Toronto’s decision to recall Schneider was part of a larger series of roster moves ahead of Monday night’s matchup with Detroit.
The Blue Jays also recalled left-hander Brendan Cellucci, who could potentially make his MLB debut. To make room, Toronto optioned left-hander Ricky Tiedemann back to Triple-A Buffalo and placed outfielder Rudy Martin Jr. on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain.
Martin had only recently made his MLB debut after spending 12 seasons in the minor leagues.
The timing of Schneider’s return is particularly important for Toronto. The Blue Jays entered Monday at 75-75 and just one game behind Cleveland for the final American League Wild Card spot, making every game increasingly significant.
Toronto opens its series against Detroit on Monday night at Rogers Centre, with Schneider now back in the mix as the Blue Jays look for another offensive weapon during their postseason push.
