The Dallas Cowboys have made a major investment in their defense, securing one of their most important defensive linemen for the foreseeable future.
The Cowboys announced Monday that they have agreed to a three-year, $105.9 million contract extension with defensive tackle Quinnen Williams. The deal gives Dallas one of the most talented interior defenders in the NFL while also making Williams one of the highest-paid players at his position.
Williams Gets Record-Breaking Guarantee
The financial details of the contract are particularly notable.
Williams will receive $63.35 million guaranteed at signing, which represents the highest-ever total guaranteed for a defensive tackle, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
It’s a significant commitment from Dallas, especially considering the Cowboys acquired Williams from the New York Jets only last November.
Before joining Dallas, Williams had signed a four-year, $96 million extension with the Jets in July 2023. That contract did not include any guaranteed salary for 2027, the final year of the deal.
The Cowboys clearly believe Williams is worth making another major investment in.
Cowboys Betting on Williams’ Proven Production
Williams, now 28 years old, appeared in seven games for Dallas following the trade last season. During that stretch, he recorded nine quarterback hits, three tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks.
While those numbers don’t fully capture his impact, Williams has built an impressive résumé throughout his NFL career.
Over seven NFL seasons, he has accumulated 41.5 sacks. His best individual season came in 2022, when he recorded a career-high 12 sacks and earned first-team All-Pro honors.
Now, Dallas is counting on Williams to anchor the interior of its defensive line for years to come.
The Cowboys paid an enormous price to keep him, but the message is clear: they view Williams as a foundational piece of their defense and believe he can help push the team toward contention.
With more than $63 million guaranteed at signing, the Cowboys are certainly putting their money where their mouth is.
