NFL: Seattle Seahawks Report Card For 2024

The 2024 year for the Seattle Seahawks can be summed up in one word, almost. They almost had it but fell apart in the end, allowing the Rams to charge in and take the division. However, both offensively and defensively, the Seahawks finished 14th overall, which isn’t bad, given some of the injuries they overcame. Going forward, the Seahawks have a bright future with their younger players, but what do they do with Geno Smith, who has helped catapult this team into contention?

QB: Geno Smith

At 34 right now, Geno Smith isn’t getting any younger, and he is entering the last year of his contract. He was traded to the Raiders last week, and since the quarterback is the most important position in any team, look for the Seahawks to replace him through the draft or free agency this year.

RB: Kenneth Walker III

Kenneth Walker III started off the season as the Seahawks starting running back until the injury bug showed up. Walker finished the season just under 900 total yards and added eight total touchdowns to go with it.

RB: Zach Charbonnet

Zack Charbonnet ended the season on high hopes after filling in for Kenneth Walker most of the season. While filling in for Walker this year, Charbonnet simply smashed it. Charbonnet actually had over 900 total yards and scored nine total touchdowns giving Seattle a two-headed monster in the backfield.

WR: D.K. Metcalf

D.K. Metcalf seemed like he didn’t even exist by the end of the season. Metcalf still had a productive year but it seemed like he became a WR2 with the emergence of Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Be weary about drafting him next year after what we saw at the end of the season. He could be traded in the coming weeks which will of course change his outlook.

WR: Jaxon Smith-Njigba

Jaxon Smith-Njigba finally took that next step last year and in a lot of ways he passed D.K. Metcalf in the pecking order. Smith-Njigba not only caught 100 passes last year which was 34 more than Metcalf, he also added seven total touchdowns to go with it. Going forward, don’t be surprised if most people draft him before any other Seahawk that’s on the team.

Defense:

Ernest Jones IV started the year as the Rams best linebacker before being traded abruptly before the beginning of the season to the Titans. After six weeks, Jones was then traded to the Seahawks in which he finished his season with 138 total tackles.

Coaching: Mike Macdonald

At age 37, Mike Macdonald started his head coaching career off to a good start in Seattle. The Ravens’ former defensive coordinator quickly turned around the defense taking it from the bottom of the league to 14th overall. With a 10-7 record in his first year, Macdonald has a promising future for now with the combination of youth and veteran leadership on his team. However, with Geno Smith getting older and poised to be a free agent after next season, Macdonald would be wise to start grooming Sam Howell or find a replacement for the future.
