Want to know what the “Puck” is happening in the hockey world? Well, here are this weeks NHL Power Rankings:
1. Winnipeg Jets
Winnipeg has won 4 of 6 games over the past 2 weeks and is still the best team in the NHL.
2. Washington Capitals
Up a spot. Washington was on a 6 game win streak before their loss to the Canucks. They are allowing the least amount of goals against per game while scoring the 3rd most goals per game.
3. Vegas Golden Knights
Down a spot. The Golden Knights are still scoring the 4th most goals per game in the NHL but have been slipping defensively of late.
4. Edmonton Oilers
Up another 2 spots. The Oilers have won 10 of their 13 games played this month and are one of the hottest teams in the NHL, if not the hottest.
5. Carolina Hurricanes
Down a spot due to the surging Oilers. Carolina won 3 of their 4 games this past week. They have the 5th most goals per game in the NHL.
6. Dallas Stars
Up 6 spots!!! The Stars have won 9 of their 13 games this month and are allowing the 3rd least goals against per game while scoring the 10th most goals per game on the season.
7. Tampa Bay Lightning
Up 2 spots. While the Lightning have won less than half of their games this month, they are still scoring the most goals per game in the NHL and allowing the 10th least goals against per game.
8. New Jersey Devils
Down 2 spots. Bad news: the Devils have only won 4 of their 12 games this month. Good news: 2 of those 4 wins have come in their past 3 games, so hopefully, they are heating up a bit.
9. Toronto Maple Leafs
Down 2 spots. The Leafs have won 7 of their 12 games this month. They are just outside the top 10 in both goals for and goals against per game.
10. Minnesota Wild
Down another 2 spots. The Wild have won half of the games they’ve played this month. Their peripheral stats- which indicate that they are a good team but not necessarily quite as good as their record suggests- have started catching up to them.
11. Los Angeles Kings
Down a spot. The Kings are allowing the 4th least goals against per game but are merely 20th in goals per game.
12. Florida Panthers
While the Panthers are top 10 in goals per game, they are mid-pack in goals against per game.
13. Colorado Avalanche
Like the Panthers, the Avalanche have been much better offensively than defensively. They are top 10 in goals per game but have allowed the 12th most goals against per game. After these top 13 teams, there seems to be a significant dropoff.
14. Ottawa Senators
The Senators lost to the Rangers and Bruins but beat the Maple Leafs and the Hockey Club.
15. Boston Bruins
The Bruins beat the Sharks, the Senators, and the Avs but lost to the Devils.
16. Vancouver Canucks
The Canucks lost to the Sabres and the Oilers but beat the Caps.
17. New York Rangers
The Rangers beat both the Senators and the Flyers but lost to the Avs.
18. Calgary Flames
The Flames beat the Sabres and Wild but lost to the Jets.
19. Utah Hockey Club
Utah beat the Jets and Wild but also lost to the Jets and the Senators.
20. St. Louis Blues
The Blues beat the Golden Knights in shootouts but lost to them the next game, as well as to the Stars the following game.
21. Pittsburgh Penguins
Pittsburgh beat the Kings but lost to the Ducks and Kraken.
22. Columbus Blue Jackets
The Blue Jackets lost to the Islanders and Canes but beat the Leafs and Kings.
23. Montreal Canadiens
Montreal beat the Lightning but lost to the Red Wings and Devils.
24. Philadelphia Flyers
The Flyers beat the Red Wings but lost to the Rangers and Islanders.
25. Seattle Kraken
The Kraken beat the Sabres and Penguins but lost to the Caps.
26. New York Islanders
The Islanders are now on a 4-game winning streak after beating the Blue Jackets, the Flyers, and the Canes this past week.
27. Buffalo Sabres
The Sabres lost to the Kraken, Flames, and Oilers but at least beat the Canucks.
28. Anaheim Ducks
The Ducks lost to the Panthers but beat both the Penguins and Predators.
29. Detroit Red Wings
The Red Wings lost to the Flyers but beat the Canadiens and Lightning.
30. Nashville Predators
The Predators beat the Sharks twice but lost to the Ducks.
31. San Jose Sharks
San Jose lost to the Bruins, the Predators twice, and the Panthers. Woof.
32. Chicago Blackhawks
The Blackhawks lost to the Canes and the Lightning, both in OT.
