NFL: NFC and AFC Championship Predictions and Previews

We are down to the final two games to see who is going to the Super Bowl. I don’t think many are shocked about three of the four teams that are remaining. I am still a little stunned that the Washington Commanders beat the Detroit Lions, but it seems like there is an upset every year. Will they continue to wear Cinderella’s glass slipper, or will the Eagles return to the Super Bowl for the third time in seven years? Meanwhile, I think many predicted a Kansas City Chiefs vs. Buffalo Bills AFC Championship game before the season started. Here are my predictions for this Sunday.

Washington Commanders at Philadelphia Eagles 3:30 p.m. EST

DETROIT, MICHIGAN – APRIL 25: Jayden Daniels poses with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell after being selected second overall by the Washington Commanders during the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft at Campus Martius Park and Hart Plaza on April 25, 2024 in Detroit, Michigan. The Commanders, led by QB Jayden Daniels, have won back-to-back road playoff games, including an improbable win as heavy underdogs against the top-seeded Detroit Lions. The Eagles have won back-to-back home playoff games riding on the legs of RB Saquon Barkley and timely defensive stops.

Key Factors:

Jayden Daniels #5 of the Washington Commanders

The two key factors will be if the Commanders can slow down Barkley and if Daniels can have the success he had against the Eagles defense back in week 16 when the Commanders scored 36 points in a comeback win.

Saquon Might Be Too Much To Handle:

For me, I think Barkley is going to be far too much and the Eagles will also make enough big plays downfield and win this one easily. Kudos to Daniels for having a great rookie season, but it ends here.

Score Prediction:

Eagles 30 – Commanders 17

Buffalo Bills at Kansas City Chiefs 6:30 p.m. EST

KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI – JANUARY 13: Patrick Mahomes #15 of the Kansas City Chiefs reacts as he takes the field before the AFC Wild Card Playoffs against the Miami Dolphins at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium on January 13, 2024 in Kansas City, Missouri. (Photo by Jamie Squire/Getty Images)

A rematch from week 11, in which the Bills won 30-21. I think many of us predicted that it would be a Patrick Mahomes vs. Josh Allen AFC Championship game even before the season started.

Key For The Bills:

I think the key for the Bills is going to be Allen’s ability to run the football and pick up key first downs with his legs. I think the Chiefs will bottle up RB James Cook, meaning that Allen is going to have to have a huge game unlike last week vs. the Baltimore Ravens.

Keys For The Chiefs:

KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI – NOVEMBER 10: DeAndre Hopkins #8 of the Kansas City Chiefs runs after the catch in the fourth quarter of a game against the Denver Broncos at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium on November 10, 2024 in Kansas City, Missouri. (Photo by David Eulitt/Getty Images)

As for the Chiefs, I think a receiver outside of TE, Travis Kelce is going to have to make a big play. A player like Hollywood Brown or DeAndre Hopkins is going to have to score to win this game. My heart wants the Bills to win this so badly, but my brain can’t pick against Mahomes. He always finds a way, and coach Andy Reid will come up with a play to win a tight one.

Score Prediction:
