Want to know what the “puck” is going on in the hockey world? Well, here are this weeks NHL power rankings!
1. Winnipeg Jets
After losses against the Blues and Bluejackets and wins vs. the Sabres and Blackhawks the Jets are still flying at the top of the league, but they are no longer ahead by very much.
2. Washington Capitals
Up a spot and could move into 1st if they keep it up. The Caps had wins against the Leafs and Canadiens, as well as a close overtime loss to the Sharks. Their performance as a team this year, especially considering the injury to Ovechkin, is nothing short of amazing.
3. Carolina Hurricanes
Down a spot. The Hurricanes lost against the Kraken and Islanders and won their game against the Avalanche.
4. Toronto Maple Leafs
The Leafs won against the Blackhawks and Predators and lost to the Capitals and Penguins.
5. Minnesota Wild
Up a spot. The Wild beat the Canucks and Ducks and lost to the Kings. They may still be under ranked, as they are tied for 1st in points with the Jets and Caps and are allowing the least amount of goals per game in the league.
6. Vegas Golden Knights
Up 3 spots. The Golden Knights are now at the top of the Pacific Division and on a 3-game winning streak after defeating the Oilers, Ducks, and Stars.
7. New Jersey Devils
Up 3 spots. The Devils won their games against the Rangers and Kraken but lost to the Avalanche. They have the best power play percentage in the league and are strong both offensively and defensively.
8. Dallas Stars
Down 3 spots after 2 close losses against the Golden Knights and Kings and wins against the Hockey Club and Flames. The loss of Seguin for likely the season is a tremendous blow.
9. Tampa Bay Lightning
Up 3 spots. The Lightning beat both the Sharks (8-1!) and Canucks. They are second in the league in goals scored per game.
10. Florida Panthers
Down 3 spots. The Panthers won against the Flyers and Sharks and lost to the Penguins.
11. Los Angeles Kings
Up 3 spots. That’s 5 wins in a row now for the Kings, with notable wins vs. the Stars and the Wild this past week!
12. New York Rangers
Down 4 spots! The Rangers lost to the Kraken and Predators and won against the Penguins. Their offense is top 10 in goals per game, but they have been worse than expected defensively and are only mid-pack in goals against per game.
13. Colorado Avalanche
Down 2 spots. The Avs won against the Sabres, Red Wings, and Devils and lost against the Hurricanes. Their fall in the ranks is more due to how well other teams are playing right now.
14. Edmonton Oilers
Down a spot. The Oilers won against the Blue Jackets and Blues and lost against the Golden Knights. They are currently doing better than expected defensively and worse than expected offensively.
15. Vancouver Canucks
Down a spot. The Canucks lost to the Wild and Lightning and won against the Blue Jackets.
16. Calgary Flames
The Flames beat the Blue Jackets but lost to the Blues and Stars.
17. Seattle Kraken
Up 6 spots! The Kraken defeated the Hurricanes, Islanders, and Rangers and lost against the Devils.
18. Ottawa Senators
Down a spot. The Senators beat the Red Wings and Predators and were beaten by the Islanders.
19. Utah Hockey Club
Down a spot. The Hockey club won against the Sabres and Flyers and lost a close one against the Stars.
20. Boston Bruins
Up a spot. Good news: the Bruins are on a 4-game win streak now! Bad news: Those 4 games were all against teams ranked here in the bottom 10.
21. Philadelphia Flyers
Down a spot. The Flyers are now on a 3 game losing streak after losses to the Panthers, Bruins, and Hockey Club.
22. Pittsburgh Penguins
Up 2 spots after impressive wins vs. the Panthers and Leafs and a loss to the Rangers. They are still the worst in goals against per game in the league.
23. St. Louis Blues
Up 2 spots. The Blues are looking better under Jim Montgomery. They had 2 impressive wins against the Jets and Flames and a loss against the Oilers this past week.
24. Buffalo Sabres
Down 5 spots!! That’s a whopping 6 losses in a row now for the Sabres!
25. Columbus Blue Jackets
Down 3 spots after 3 straight losses against the Flames, Oilers, and Canucks.
26. New York Islanders
Up a spot. The Islanders won against the Hurricanes and Senators and lost to the Kraken and the Canadiens (close OT loss).
27. Anaheim Ducks
Down a spot. The Ducks lost definitively against the Golden Knights and the Wild.
28. Nashville Predators
Down 2 spots. That’s a very depressing 7 straight losses for the Predators now, with new losses to the Leafs, the Senators, and even the lowly Canadiens.
29. Detroit Red Wings
That’s 5 straight losses for the Red Wings, with new losses against the Bruins, Senators, and Avalanche.
30. San Jose Sharks
Up a spot. The Sharks lost to the Panthers and Lightning but managed a close OT win against the Capitals. They are still in the bottom 10 for goals per game and are 5th worst in goals against per game.
31. Montreal Canadiens
Up a spot. The Canadiens beat the Predators and Islanders and lost to the Capitals. They at least have Patrik Laine back now and he had a goal in both wins.
32. Chicago Blackhawks
Down 2 spots. The Blackhawks are now on a 5-game losing streak, with new losses to the Leafs, Bruins, and Jets.
