Fantasy Football Best Ball Draft Analysis

I had the 7th pick, and I was not going to pass on CMC. I know about his injury history, but this league pays out two places, and he could be the top-scoring running back. If he gets injured, then I am going to be cooked.

I had a strong feeling that I would get RB Travis Etienne in the fourth round, so I had a good idea that I would get receivers in the second and third rounds. Receivers Drake London and Ladd McConkey were easy choices for me. I drafted London ahead of WR AJ Brown because London routinely sees double-digit targets, and I do worry Brown has lost a step after watching tons of tape and seeing him struggle to get open.

Ladd is getting overlooked in my opinion. He started slow a season ago but was getting better as the season went on. Plus, there is no more WR Keenan Allen to take away targets. Look for a big season from Ladd. I was right that Etienne would be there in the 4th round, and I was already high on him before the RB Alvin Kamara injury. The sky is the limit for Etienne. In the 5th round, I drafted TE Tyler Warren. He is a safe pick at tight end.

I like to have a safe tight end, plus I liked a lot of receivers and backs that I knew I could get later. I was very happy with my next four picks. RB Tony Pollard will have solid weeks in what should be an improving Titans offense. Receivers Michael Wilson and Wan’Dale Robinson should be steady and have some huge weeks.

WR Matthew Golden is my upside play, as some close to the Packers think that he could turn into their number one receiver over Christian Watson. RB Tyrone Tracy gives me more running back depth in round 10. Plus, he has a good chance to be featured in the backfield when and if RB Cam Skattebo were to get injured.

I liked how my roster was looking, but I had a big void at QB. I had nobody, and my team could be devastated if another run on quarterbacks happened. Knowing that the position was getting scarce, I drafted Kyler Murray, Daniel Jones, and Jacoby Brissett. I know it’s not exciting, but all I need is for one of them to have a good week. The foundation is set; the rest of my draft is about adding depth and figuring out the kicker and defenses.

I was able to handcuff both CMC and Pollard with Kaelon Black and Tyjae Spears. I tend to go with the Vikings kicker and defense, as I think they are both solid, plus I am a homer. I think the Raiders defense is another to target in best ball or even in redraft. They will be much better.

If you notice, I do not have a QB/WR combo, and that’s just fine in a league where you do not advance for a grand prize. This league pays only the top two teams, so stacking is unnecessary.

I did make mistakes, though; I forgot about adding depth to the tight end position. I caught up in other positions, but I will really be struggling if Warren goes down. Speaking of Warren, I could have passed on him in the second round, drafted a receiver like Parker Washington, and then waited at tight end. I also should have drafted Brissett’s backup in QB Carson Beck, but in my defense, I was shocked he was drafted in round 22. He often doesn’t even get drafted. The next time I take Brissett, I will take him in round 21 just to make sure I have both Cardinals QB options.

Now let’s critique some other teams. Team one drafted quarterbacks, Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson. I have no idea why. He/she could have drafted WR Chris Olave in the third round and still nabbed Jackson. Team three drafted receivers in their first four rounds, making them very thin at running back. Team four had a solid draft, getting the hero running back in round one and then unloading on receivers before getting three running backs that should contribute. The rest did well with no glaring mistakes.
