Should You Draft Kirk Cousins, Jared Goff, or Justin Fields?: NFC North QB Fantasy Football Profiles

Alisha gives her take on the fantasy outlooks of every NFC North quarterback, from Justin Fields to Kirk Cousins.

The NFC North is an interesting division, especially at the quarterback position. We have two veteran QBs, one that needs to prove he can pass as well as he can rush, and a former first-rounder getting his first chance to lead a team in year three. Who will lead their team to the top in the NFC North, and who can lead your fantasy team to the championship?

Kirk Cousins Fantasy Outlook

Kirk Cousins may not be a top-tier QB, but he is durable, effective, consistent and productive. Those are all the things you want in a fantasy QB. Cousins has exceeded 4,000 passing yards in each of the last three seasons, ranking fourth last year with 4,547. Kirk finished 2022 with 29 TDs, although he also had 14 interceptions. With one of the league’s best WRs in Justin Jefferson, TE TJ Hockenson and rookie WR Jordan Addison, he has a great receiving core and a good chance to produce another top-12 fantasy season.

Jared Goff Fantasy Outlook

Goff led the Rams to Super Bowl LIII and then just fell off over the next couple of seasons, which led to his trade to the Detroit Lions. He didn’t do anything special until last season with the Lions, but it seems Goff works well under offensive coordinator Ben Johnson. The thing that hurts Goff for fantasy is he is not a dual-threat QB, but he has an arm that can offset the fantasy production. Goff averaged 16.7 points per game last season, which was better than Justin Herbert, Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Russell Wilson and Dak Prescott. He has great chemistry with WR Amon-Ra St Brown, an excellent receiving back in rookie RB Jahmyr Gibbs, and a deep threat in WR Jameson Williams after he serves a six-game suspension. If Goff can produce like last year, or better, he is a solid fantasy QB and can lead your team to the top.

Justin Fields Fantasy Outlook

Justin proved he could use his legs last year, running for 1,143 yards and eight touchdowns and finishing as a top-six fantasy QB. What we need to see more of is what his arm can do. Fields only averaged 149.5 passing yards per game and only hit over 200 yards in two games. In his defense, the targets Fields had to work with last year were not great, and the offensive line was okay at best. The Bears have amped up the offensive line and traded for DJ Moore to give Fields a true top target. If he can pass as well as he can rush, this will be one of the best Chicago Bears team fans have seen in a long time, and Fields will be one of the best options in fantasy at the position.

Jordan Love Fantasy Outlook

Jordan was a bit of a surprise when he was a first-round draft pick in 2020. Since then, he has sat behind Aaron Rodgers, appearing in just four games last season with very limited playing time. In his limited 2022 action, Love completed 14-of-21 passes for 195 yards and one touchdown. Now that Rodgers is with the New York Jets, Love is GB’s new man. The Packers have very talented WRs in Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs, and let’s not forget the addition of rookie WR Jayden Reed. Love could be a bust, a breakout fantasy star, or anything in between. There are obvious best and worst-case scenarios here; the question is which will come to pass.
