We’ve reached more than 25% of the season for all but 2 teams in our league.  How is your team? Are you surprised by anything that’s happened so far this year?  Could you have made any moves that would have made your team better? How is your process?  Do you need to make any changes immediately?

I like playing Dynasty Football as there is no urgency.  At this point, I feel like I have a good idea of what my teams are going to do.  Teams that are 4-0, 3-1, 2-2, I feel, have a reasonable chance at the playoffs.  Teams that are 1-3 and 0-4 will have to play out of their minds to get there.  I try to get to a record of 8-6 to get to the playoffs with as many teams as possible.

Now that we’ve seen 4 games for each team, we have a good idea how are teams score in this year and how involved our players are in their teams game plan.

My process of starting my highest weekly ranked player is simply my start sit mechanism.  I don’t shoot for upside weekly, but more just simply try to score the most points.  If my bench player scores more, it’s because their midpoint was lower than the midpoint of the player I started.  Week over week, this allows me to score the most points.

I chart each year the starting QB’s each week so that I can keep track of injuries to one of the most important yet volatile positions that seem to be the most sought after year over year.  When I have to many QB’s I seem to be a team most people need to do business with and really need to buy at the prices I set.

I take a day to go through each and every team, looking at the record, and if the record is 0-4 or 1-3, I’m looking at what pieces I have that might not be as good next year.  I look to move them for draft capital, and I tend to be cheaper at this time of year since I’m trying to reduce my maxpf and shedding them from my roster now helps with that, as well as I’m very selective to make sure I’m not selling my young assets.  Some examples of guys I’m selling are guys like Pittman or Josh Jacobs off these teams.  I’m actually not selling Breece as I view him as an RB about to get a 2nd contract, and with a potential new team next summer might have more value.  JK Dobbins or Javonte are players I’m moving on from as well.  This is the time I focus on adding to my draft capital; however, I don’t need to move people. I just need to acquire as many 1st and 2nd round picks as I can at this time of year.

Teams that are in the playoff hunt, I’m actually not looking to make a trade because a couple of injuries before week 8, when I next take a deep dive, and these teams aren’t making the playoffs, so I stay patient and wait for deals that simply make my team better.  I stay very disciplined and let these trades come to me unless a need pops up then I aggressively go find a replacement such as a team that lost Tyreek Hill this week and now is 3-1 with very little by way of WR so I’ll look at my surplus which is QB and see if I can make a profound difference at WR but still need to stay young in case it doesn’t work out the way I expect.  I always listen to offers but this group of teams, I’m not pursuing deals just yet as I want to keep putting wins on the table.  I want my team to build to beat the other teams that didn’t build enough of the assets that are most volatile and hardest to acquire, and allow those ill advised trades to influence the bad teams and the good teams, which are simply mistakes.  Teams that win trades will eventually lose trades just because eventually those bad trades will come if you give an owner enough time.  I’ve watched super power teams make a couple of bad trades and work their way out of super power teams.  I’m simply looking to win money and have found that by staying patient I can out last the masses and simply strike when its there.  It’s important to understand how you play and what you do well.  I am great at drafting my draft board each year and might be even better at shuffling my bench through waivers to get to startable players.  I simply want a bench full of startable players for someone, so that they aren’t playing against me.   Bring your strategy questions to our discord so that you can continually get better and, more importantly, be able to understand why you have the outcomes you see with your teams.
