Every week, I will share my favorite waiver wire or free agent pickups in fantasy football. Here is what I have for week one!
QB:
Derek Carr, New Orleans Saints
The Saints offense has been unstoppable through the first two weeks of the season with new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak. Carr is flourishing, and if he’s out there in any of your leagues, he needs to be added. He’s been amazing.
Geno Smith, Seattle Seahawks
He looked really good in a tough spot in week two. The Seahawks had to travel across the country and play in an early game against a solid Patriots defense. Geno threw for over 300 yards, and his top 2 wide receivers had big days.
Andy Dalton, Carolina Panthers
Bryce Young is being benched. The Panthers offense will still suck, I am sure, but any starting QB is worthy of a look in a super flex/2 QB format.
RB:
Braelon Allen, New York Jets
He was excellent in week two and should be rostered even if you don’t have Breece Hall. Allen made plays rushing the football and in the passing game, which is great to see in just his second NFL game.
Carson Steele, Kansas City Chiefs
Pacheco will be out for at least four weeks, possibly as many as eight. It’s a big loss for the Chiefs, but it opens the door for Steele and the next guy on the list to help you in fantasy. Steele is going to be the short-yardage guy and see most of the carries, so you want him, especially in the Chiefs offense.
Samaje Perine, Kansas City Chiefs
So, although Steele should get most of the running game work in the offense, Perine will still see some carries. More importantly, he is going to be the pass-catching back, which in the Chiefs offense is a fantasy-friendly role. I want Steele, but you should have Perine as your backup claim.
Isaac Guerendo, San Francisco 49ers
Jordan Mason looks excellent, so he won’t be losing his job anytime soon. Still, with CMC on IR and now Deebo Samuel out for at least a couple of weeks, Guerendo is going to see touches in a good offense, and if something happens to Mason, he will be the starter. Grab him up!
Antonio Gibson, New England Patriots
Stevenson looks great, and the Patriots offense isn’t as anemic as we thought it would be. Gibson is a good pass catcher, and the Patriots want to run the ball as often as possible, so there is a clear role for him. He had a nice game in week 2.
