Dr. Roto’s Daily Prescription 8/24: Fantasy Football News Update

Dr. Roto takes a look at some of the biggest fantasy football headlines of the last few days, including Corey Davis’ shock retirement and Trey Lance’s demotion to QB3.

  • Sam Darnold has been named the QB2 for the 49ers, relegating former third-overall pick Trey Lance to QB3. The 49ers will likely hold all three QBs for as long as possible to make sure that Brock Purdy is fully healthy. Lance might be moved at the trade deadline, but only if the 49ers can get enough value to make it worth it, as Lance is playing under his rookie deal.
  • Jets WR Corey Davis decided to retire on Wednesday. Allen Lazard is now cemented in as the Jets WR2, and Mecole Hardman is locked in as WR3. Lazard looks like a very sneaky mid-round draft selection, as he and Rodgers are very familiar with one another and Garrett Wilson is likely to see tons of double coverage.
  • Ravens WR Rashod Bateman says he is “99% healthy” from last year’s foot injury. Right now, the Ravens’ offense is stacked with playmakers, and OC Todd Monken’s offense is up-tempo to the point of being fast. Lamar Jackson has everything in place for a career year.
  • Cowboys QB Dak Prescott has been talking up TE Jake Ferguson, saying he is primed for a breakout season. Ferguson has been going in the 18th-20th rounds of my early drafts, but last night, in a Beat Dr. Roto draft, he was selected in Round 12. This just shows how important new information can swing the drafting pendulum in this time of year.
