Trading in dynasty football is what lots of people really enjoy. In my dynasty portfolio, whether my team has had its rookie draft or not, this is prime trade season. Fantasy football is a game of information, and with that, the dynasty player on average is plugged in with lots of information; however, at this time, most of those managers tend to overreact to news, so this is a time to take advantage.
The schedule is being released, and with that comes the bye weeks. What I find is that a simple question is all you need to ask other owners….. What are you planning to do on a specific week with all the byes you have? I typically look at what positions I have an abundance of and then look at teams that are looking weak in that area, or drafted stars and scrubs. I make sure I’m not the opponent on the week that is a problem in their lineup.
Its important that should someone ask you that same question your thought process is my whole team will be different with injuries by then and you don’t have to make a lineup until that week however with others you can capitalize on the “need” to make a move and I believe fully that this an area that you can win the offseason as you will build your 2026 draft capital now.
This will be the absolute best time to buy early picks next year at a deep discount. Most people think their team is a piece away, but really they might be a piece away if no injuries occur. Weeks 1-3 last year, the Saints offense with Carr was clicking, and less than a year later they are awful and Carr is retired. If you traded Carr last off-season, you would have gotten lots of Jeanty in your life.
That owner probably made fun of you for the trade in September, but likely their last-place finish got you a prime return on an aging QB. Use the next few days to reach out to your league mates and see what excess position players you can trade for a premium. It will set your dynasty team up for many years to come.
